It's not THAT bad, dude! Rosenman's work on STIV has some nice moments, but there's no way in hell I'd hire him back. It'd all end up sounding like his LORD OF THE RINGS score again anyway! Goldsmith is fine by me. And you don't even like the tracks "Final Flight", "The Scorpion" or "The Mirror"? Well, there's just no satisfying you, Dinko, I guess!

Sure there is. Just not in any of the film scores of 2002. That list of soundtracks Peter posted last week is particularly depressing.
Recently I've had to satisfy myself with yet another Scheherazade... +

    Stupid answer for the JJHobster:

"collect" them, no. Get some of them, yes. Golden Age releases are, I find, pretty much the only bright light in recent soundtrack CDs. I would get more if so many of them did not cost 19.99$ + S&H which, when you translate into Canadian $$$, comes out at almost twice the price of a regular CD, and is as expensive as the recent EMI Classics boxed sets. For comparative advantage reasons, I prefer buying more classical music than golden age releases.

I want Goldsmith to get better. But I wouldn't mind another Rosenman Trek score either. (I don't hear any problems with the bass line though, my only complaint about the sound is that it's a bit too distant - unusual for Botnick)

Why can't you people just like a perfectly fine score by Goldsmith. I mean come on let's see you write a score of the same Caliber as Nemesis when you are over 70!!

Oh well to each his own...

There we go... the old age argument again...

"It's not Jimmy's fault he's completely senile at 70, he was the best scientist of the whole world, so cut him some slack now that he can't add two plus two".

Relative performance does not negate absolute quality (or lack of).

Dinko we are talking about a fully symphonic work here. Not someone being able to zip his pants without help.

And Marian you should be impressed with your spine it's one of the most complex organs of the body.

Fully symphonic or not, any senile 70-year old can drive when the vehicle is on autopilot.

Trek IV's orchestra sounds approximately like that on the first CD release of Rosenman's LOTR score, as far as I remember. On the remastered CD of that, you can hear that the orchestra wasn't small at all.

Rosenman is fine for certain things but his Trek and Robocop scores are simply wrong. Can't you just hear the main theme, with a choir like Robo 2, da-da-da-da-dadaaa "NE-ME-SISSS! NE-ME-SISSS!"
