    Hello Everyone,

This week on CINEMATIC SOUND I will be presenting the best of Jerry Goldsmith in the 80's. Due to the fact that this is a last second change in my programming I haven't had the chance to compile a list of Goldsmith's top scores of the 80's. This is where you guys come in...

If you would like to help, please post here your top 10 Jerry Goldsmith scores of the 1980's. This should help me in programming my show and spark some interesting debate as to which of his many scores in this decade are truly Goldsmith's best.

    Thanks for your assistance,

    -Erik-

Correct me if I'm wrong JJ, but I saw Total Recall around the time it was released, in Santa Monica (I was travelling the States at the time) in 1990.

Let's see, Erik - From that decade I'd say that the top-notch JG scores were possibly -

THE FINAL CONFLICT - certainly brilliant in its thematic material. Can't quite recall if there's much "uninteresting" padding in other tracks...

POLTERGEIST - hands down 5-star marvellous.

UNDER FIRE - generally regarded as a pinnacle of Goldsmith's career. I tend to agree. Brilliant guitar scoring (and playing).

TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE - splendid, the disparate elements could have led to an uneven whole, but they don't. Inspired all round.

Almost brilliant, but just a half star off the above for me are RAMBO 2 and STAR TREK 5.

Much of his other stuff has brilliant moments, like EXTREME PREJUDICE (a VERY interesting score which I didn't like at all on first listen). Things like LIONHEART and LEGEND are, I feel, over-rated (simply meaning that I can't see what's so great about them), but if we start going in to all that, we'll be here all night.

Good luck with your final choice.
