Wonderful. Eerie, creepy. As the two towers is a more darker sequel in the lord of the rings trilogy, so is this score. Gone are most of the peaceful serene parts we enjoyed so much during Lothlorien and Rivendel. HELLO Urukhai!
I am in love with Gollums song. It is so sad. So beautiful. So realistic close to the movie and the character. The resemblances with Bjork are on the spot.NP: THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS-Howard Shore *****/*****

Anyway this new score offer newer music from the first score, but is still done in a such a exaggerated fasion, that I don't see how anyone other than the Tolken freaks can get ecxited about it.posted 11-24-2002 10:49 AM PT (US)

Well I guess you guys have a right to your opinion...I personally think they both fit their respective film like a glove, but 99 times out of 100 I'd prefer listening to LOTR on CD.

Sorry, but I think "Gollum's Song" sucks. I listened to it twice and then programmed it out of my player. And as to her sounding like "Bjork" I have no idea, having never heard she/he/it (thrown in after what was worn at the Oscars) sing, and I don't want to.

What don't you like about the song, Kevin? I mean, it really is a good piece of music. To say that it sucks would be like comparing it to... The Running Man. Or something... what's up with your opinion?Jeron

Amazon offer up a full download of Gollum's Song in their listing for the TT score, and I really am rather fond of it, notably in it's lyrics which frankly sum up Smeagol as the tragic character that he is. I like Torrini's vocal, it's almost other worldy in it's tone.
Songs can be funny with some people. Some initialy note the vocal, some the melody, some the lyrics. Perhaps after some have seen the film the depth of Gollum's Song will in fact be more apparent to them.
New Line seem confident enough in Andy Serkis' performance to want to push him for a best supporting actor oscar nomination next year according to recent news articles. I think the plight of Smeagol/Gollum is really going to be something to experience in the film, and something many will not have been expecting.

What I want to know is where you all are getting copies of this score from. It can't be by purely legal means...Mike

Besides Dinko, I was just makin' a funny. A majority of "the gang" here knows of my disdain for Faltermeyer's score. Nothing against him, as I enjoy much of his other work.

I picked mine up from Tower Records a couple weeks ago. On a serious note, who said any of us has a copy? I'm still anxiously awaiting Dec. 10th.

I like "Gollum's Song," per se, a great deal. What I don't like is Emiliana Torrini, who's voice is completely unsuited for the style of the song. I think it calls for someone with a much cleaner voice.Kirk

The only problem I have with the score (apart from the song), is that it's way too short. I mean, the tracks are only 30 seconds long!!! For a 2.5+ hour movie? Did he score it like Williams did "Ryan?"Kevin

Jeron:I make the comment because several people on in the thread, like TimT and Foobsie and others, make posts alluding to the fact that they have, indeed, heard the ENTIRE release, far in advance of the score being released to the general public. In fact, TimT seems to ALWAYS have heard these scores in advance, yet I'm pretty certain he doesn't run a review site and therefore doesn't get advance promotional copies to review. This is why I question the legality of the ways in which people have heard the score, not Gollum's Song.

I see your point. So, I suppose the question stands for Foobsie and TimT - where'd you guys get your copies? OR are you just eggin' us on?NOTE TO KEVIN: That's actually how scores are gonna be released from now on forward. 30 second cues. Peter Jackson and Howard Shore are revolutionizing the way music is composed for and utilized in films! 30 seconds here, 30 seconds there...

Oh mine, I shouldn’t read these posts. They make me thirsty of music. I’ll wait to listen to it at the movies. As my expectations are high, I think it’d be better if I wait and get surprised and amazed (When the FOTR was released, I did the same thing and I cried at several parts of the movie, just because of the music)Rach

Jeron/Hornerfan...They are MP3's of the standard score edition @ 320 kbits/s. ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT.
I'd like to point out though, that I have ordered the Limited Edition from a favorite online retailer and plan to delete the mp3's as soon as the legitimate release arrives. I support all original artists and cough up the full sum! :-(These MP3's can be found on that wonderous thing we call internet!

Alot of times you can buy advanced copies of a CD on eBay or Half.com before thier release dates. And sometimes you may know someone that can hook you up.posted 11-25-2002 01:38 AM PT (US)
