I noticed a lot of the clips from Bond music weren't from the original recordings. They were a bit slower than the original and had less PUNCH in them...something that happens very often with re-recordings. Either because the conductor doesn't know the original tempos, prefers a slower more appreciative tempo or the Orchestra is under-rehearsed and cant play up to full tempo!! What album are these particular tracks from? I'm assuming some are from "Bond Back in Action" or maybe some other Silva Screen release. How many are there?

    The suites were as follows...

    1)Dr. No (5:16)
(This includes the Tarantula scene's (hilarious "hitting with a slipper" Mickey Mouse music!! The breathing underwater with reeds scene and the final Destruction of Dr. No's hideout (Mining Disaster Music )

    2)From Russia with Love (2:48)
(Punchy Brass opening of the Main Titles (although at a much slower tempo) followed by a full orchestral Barryesque renditioning of "From Russia with Love" followed by a nice brief cue of the quiet James Bond opening Vamp followed by a closing statement of the PUNCHY Brass opening

3)Dawn Raid on Fort Knox (5:28)
Very close to the original version..TIMPS sound different though and some Tempo differences.

    4)You Only Live Twice (5:18)
Opens with previously unreleased "Underwater" music from opening scene, seques into quiet James Bond Vamp and more Exotic version of Underwater motif (NICE!!) Straight into "Mountains and Sunsets" version of YOLT Theme.

    5)O.H.M.S.S.(4:15)
A re-recording of "The Ski Chase"

    6)Diamonds are Forever (2:42)
A re-recording of the instrumental version of the "Theme Song"

They may have been from this recent 'Best of Bond' album release, I think by the Prague Philharmonic? I think Bates was giving a few copies away on the show last night...

I've noticed that the Classic FM movie show always seems to play re-recordings when available. Maybe they do indeed have a deal with Silva, because I think that might be the source of a lot of the stuff they play. As regards the Bond music in the latest programme, I don't know because I didn't hear it, but the DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER instrumental version of the title song may have been from the 4-CD "40 Years Of John Barry Music" (which was already a compilation of older Silva re-recordings, I think).

Almost all of the pieces on that 4 CD set were done in Prague, with Nic Raine conducting. I'm very wary in general of Silva re-recordings, but much of their John Barry stuff is excellent. The Bond music comes off the worst though, especially (like in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER) when they do an instrumental version of a song. Regarding DIAMONDS, I think there's even a "wrong note" in there, and I'm not talking about a fluff, but rather one bit which may have been notated wrongly on paper. I wish I was musically educated enough to explain which bit I mean. Or maybe it's no big deal. Or maybe I'm just wrong.

Graham, I have the John Barry 40 Years Film Collection too and you're right, now that I think about it, the "Diamonds are Forever" version may be from that. I'll have to check it out again.
I know what you mean also about a wrong note. I have had this experience with re-recordings and also Piano Sheet music that I have played where a note from the melody has been notated at the wrong pitch. It sounds o.k. to the untrained ear and is in key etc but to the person with the trained ear, like yourself, who knows the music well, then the different note is obvious and recognised as being incorrect.
I know what I'm talking about anyway!!
