I just picked this up today, I really enjoy the theme that Edelman uses done with the french horn, very cool. The rest of the score definately has a MV feel to it, but at the same time it has that token Edelman feel to it as well (that synthy feel). Overall though it's a very enjoyable listen, I would reccomend it.

Yeah, I've got it right here. It's on DreamWorks Records. George Clooney and Nicole Kidman are on the front.

    Oh, wait....

I really don't see why people are blasting this score because it have some cues inspired from other scores. The main theme is original and very nice, and the rest of the score is good too.

Yeah some parts in the movie (but not on the CD) seem to be inspired by another score, but is it the first time that this happen? No! Is it wrong? No if every people concerned agree.

For my part, I would say that doing an action only score, that run around 90-120 minutes long is very hard. I mean, not only doing an action score, but doing an interresting and original action score. If somebody is able to do it, then I'll congratulate him cause it's very difficult. I don't like when people doesn't respect a composer and his work for a movie by laughing at him.

These guys have most of the time 2-3 weeks to see the movie, find the ideas, record all the themes and underscore, make it accepted by the director, then by the producers, and dealing with the cut and recut of the movie (even a few days before the deadline) and then, arrange it and record it with an orchestra. Most of the steps to create a score take a lot of time, but finding ideas is sometime painfull, especially when you have to stick in a specific style (like xXx which is almost non-stop action).

Just try it once, and you'll see what I mean. ;-) Of course, you can like or dislike a music, and that's good. But not liking it doesn't give you the right to laugh at a composer's work.

    But that's just my opinion.

This is exactly why i havent been posting here lately, the sarcasm is starting to really piss me off. Sure the score was inspired by the peacemaker, but it does have it's original themes and I think it is one of Edelmans best scores, it's a damn fun listen, not to mention some damn fine driving music. I can't hear any direct rips from the peacemaker (on the cd anyway), just a few similar motifs. If you're not a fan of MV or zimmer in particular, stay clear of this score. But for a zimmer fan like myself, it's a good score to have. Oh yeah, and if you're thinking knocking zimmer in this thread, do it elsewhere, I'm curious on some other opinions on this score. It's one of the most fun scores I've bought in a long time i think.

I'm not knocking Zimmer. In fact, if it's Zimmer I want, I'll get the real thing. Not some pale imitation.

Just wanted to say that none of the Peacemaker rip offs are on this CD. Even the stuff that sounded like Rabin in the Motorcylce Assualt, has been removed from the cue.

Oh, Tim... how could you do that? By saying that the music which sounds like Zimmer is not on the CD, you pushed sales of the score lower, so now all the Zimmer weirdoes won't buy it. ( )

It's not that often that it's such a short turnaround period.... generally they have a bit longer to get everything done....

Because, it obvious that the music on the CD is Randy Edelman. You have to be familiar with his other scores to notice.

You're right Tim, I can even hear bits of "Fire in a Brooklyn Theater" from Come See The Paradise in a few of the tracks. The only truly Zimmerish cue on the album (in my opinion) is the Motorcycle Assault.

'tis be another great frisbee to add to my wall collection.

Other than the opening cue, this score is absolute poop.

Next time I want to hear this type of 'tihs' (read backward) I'll go rent the latest straight-to-video Dolph Lundgren movie. Though in all fairness, Paul Zaza has done much better for Lundgren than this lame synth underscore fillermusik Edelman did for XXX.

Also, will someone *please* explain to me the logic of hiring a highly expensive AFM orchestra when the final mix is going to sound like synth banging? Can't they just bang on the synths without hiring the orchestra? Seems it would be much cheaper to hire the Hollywood Studio Synthesizer as opposed to hiring both the Hollywood Studio Symphony and the Hollywood Studio Synth.
Explicate to me I beg, as the logic escapes me.

    Dinko,
Let's face it, its a video game world.. and all action scores are gonna sound like video games now. Ahh well.. Guess I'll have to go back and listen to my old James Bond Scores if I want my spy music fix...
