I just picked up the cd on friday, yes i wish the cd was longer in length but i am happy with whats on it. I agree that at some points it sounds like TWINE but it still sounds awesome. Other than the Madonna song which sucks!! everything else is smoooooth i even enjoy the James Bond remix. Overall i am happy with Arnold's latest Bond score, maybe in the future we will get an expanded score??

Speaking for myself, I think its rather boring. I have nothing agianst Techno, in fact I will agree that theres some good techno music out there. But Arnold's is lame and intrusive to the orchestra.
The rest of the music is good ,but so unoriginal thats its difficult to get ecxited. I heard, ID4, I heard TND, I heard TWINE...is DAD supposed to be something new?

On the Beach, Whiteout, Antonov and especially Going Down Together were the best tracks. I'm beginning to like this score although it's one of the weakest in the series but still it's a Bond score!
And the remix wasn't bad either.

Jeron just sent me a suite he made and I must say I was very impressed. Why so many don't like this score? I have no clue. From the 14 minutes I heard, I was floored and fell in love. Perhaps it's because it's right up my alley in what I expect in a James Bond score. Ah well, I'll be getting it for sure. Thanks Jeron

"Well son, i like mine too. Every one else are fools. I'll like mine no matter what."

"Thanks DAD, no matter what anybody says, remember, i am pulling for you."

"What the hell are you talking about? I was talking about David Arnold's latest score you butt pirate."

Having seen the film, the CD is frankly an abysmal account of the score really doing it no justice whatsoever. The greatest thing about the CD is the ability to have cues from the film that are drowned out by sound effects in what is frankly a terrible, TERRIBLE sound mix.

There is so much terrific score in the film not heard on the movie, enough in my mind to possibly sway the current opinions of some of the techno naysayers.

Really, if you can manage to focus on the music under the bloody sound effects in the movie it's clear (to me at least) that Die Another Day is Arnold's most accomplished 007 score, and he's fused the techno underscorings with the orchestral stuff far more consistently than he did in TWINE. On top of this, the full score as it stands isn't techno heavy at all, he allows the orchestra to frequently take the lead...

I love the music on the CD, but the album and the sound mix of the film itself do the score no justice. Some brilliant, BRILLIANT cues of score that have gone unreleased. I so want the film version of "Welcome to Cuba" that flows into a mabo motif of the 007 theme, oh my.... There's a LOT of unreleased score I want from this movie, and I know I am not alone here.

Good movie too, up until the stuff in the ice where it takes the term far fetched to new levels, and that's saying something for a Bond movie. There wasn't a moment where I did not feel entertained however. It's certainly Brosnan's best outing.

I agree entirely, Dan! I heard that Arnold is interested in putting out a second CD... perhaps by the time the DVD is released. One can hope...

I'm looking forward to getting the CD, as I saw the film this afternoon and enjoyed it a lot.

The Madonna song is genuinely terrible. I seriously can't believe that Broccoli and Wilson gave this the OK. On the journey home, my mother spent the entire time singing the theme to THUNDERBALL.

    Jeron,

I hope Arnold can secure a deal to get more music out, yes... I really was so thrilled with his music for the movie whilst watching it. He's really nailed his approach to 007 in this score, and I like it, I really REALLY like it.

    Richard,

Oddly I thought that the (really neat) title sequence made the song rather tollerable, I neither utterly hate nor love the song now. It's just, well.... meh.

I heard alot of cues from TWINE. DAD just didn't strike me as original as TND and TWINE.

just got back from seeing Die Another Day. Overall, an enjoyable Bond flick! my thoughts (in no order):
    *spoilers*

-poor David Arnold. His music was mixed horribly for the first third, just fine in the middle, and even worse at the end. Completely overshadowed by the SFX. It is a fine score, and I enjoyed some unreleased cues (in Cuba mostly). Too bad Arnold didn't have a song to work with, as the Bond theme is played very often in the film (less so on the album)

-this was the loudest film I have ever heard. I guess it is just the theater, but I walked away with a headache and so did my GF. The loud gunshot during the barrel sequence was cool though.

-I loved the sequence in the subway, where Bond and Q walk through all the old gadgets from the previous films.

-Halle Berry was good, and certainly looked good. Although I preferred the other girl more ;-)

-the car chase in the ice castle went on waaaay too long.

-what's with the elctro-suit at the end. Too sci-fi for Bond, imho.

-great work by Brosnon, after Connery, he is by far the best bond.

-the Madonna song worked with the credits, but it is still a lousy song. And did we need to hear it at the end in an even more techno version?

-great swordfights. Very intense work, and one of the highlights of the film!

-I'm glad the bad sexual puns are back in the Bond films, although the final one wasn't too funny.

-nice fight with the lasers. or lazers?

Although the film is about 20 minutes too long, go see it to see how an action film should be done!

My take on the movie will be in the "Just Movies" section.

As for the music, it was okay. Still hate the Madonna song.

Now apparently a recent issue of the Daily Express newspaper here in the UK saw David Arnold REALLY rip into the Madonna song.

The article apparently saw him deem it the "worst bond song ever" and a song that has "no place in his world of bond music"...

I recently saw the movie. Absolutly loved it and Arnold's score was one of his best Bond. I loved the choral parts.

My take on the movie: (slight spoilers)

    • This is the one I enjoyed most out of the Brosnan ones. Good solid entertainment throughout.
    • Not too keen on the main titles - didn't look consistent IMO. The song didn't sound that non-Bondy though.
    • Loved the zillion puns, especially the sparkling personality one.
    • Liked Halle Berry (apart from the obvious reasons). During the melting sequence I was genuinely concerned that we wouldn't se her for the rest of the movie
    • Apart from the iceberg-surfing I think the effects were all very well done.
    • Was nice to see Michael Madsen in something big-budget again.

    • Score - loved it in the film. The main theme and Jinx's theme made some great appearances during the action sequences.

I dunno. Just didn't seem like a "Bond" movie to me.
Madonna's main title song is an abomination, as is her OVERLY long "cameo."
(Shame on Tamahori for that one).

I enjoyed the slight references to other Bond movies.

    Score's good though.

It seemed quite ironic that Arnold's name appeared during the Main Titles during othe part of the title song that (IMO) has some decent orchestral stuff going on.

The score is pretty damn good. What I have come to expect from Mr. Arnold. When Jinx comes out of the water is perfect homage to Barry.

The film on the other hand...UGH!

Hands down the worst Bond movie ever. I would watch "Never Say Never Again", "Moonraker" and "Diamonds are Forever" five times each before I ever watch this aberration again.

Actually the opening sequence is pretty spot-on but then it takes a nose-dive early on and there's no turning back after the fencing sequence. With the Matrix-style slow-downs and Charlies Angels/XXX style action sequences it left me wanting way way more. In Charlies Angels you can do that type of overtstated action but Bond "should" still retain some sort of believability. The jump off of the balcony in Spain in "The World is Not Enough" plays way way better than the 90% of th action in "Die Another Day".

Less is more Hollywood....and if there's one thing this film needed is less.

    [tiny spoiler]

The best thing about the Main Titles was when the scorpion tails come into view in time to the foot-tapping at the beginning of the song.
