I had heard rumors of this earlier last month, which was contrary to the rather reliable word that Hans Zimmer was going to be working on the project.

Nonetheless, I'm anxious to hear what Marco does for it!

hope this is true, I think Marco is a wonderful choice for that score! His use of electronics will fit the terminator mold very nicely.

Wooooaaah, sweet!!!! I suppose it might be partly due to his excellent work on another high profile action-filled sequel that helped him get the gig (if it's indeed true). I really can't wait to hear what he comes up with. Something a bit less horror-orientated I should think.

    Wow! Beltrami! Nice!
Pointlessly clashing strings, cheap brass blasts, uselessly screaming woodwings... can't wait. ( )

Beltrami would be a risky choice. If they let him do what he wants to do, we might get a great score.

If they force a temp track on him, and if they only hired him to mimic Scream, then it could be another horror (or horrible...?) score like Resident Evil.

Ok, why the hell isn't Brad Fiedel doing it? The Terminator Theme is synonymous with this film, anything otherwise better include it.

I'm all for giving Marco Beltrami a shot on this, but I'd rather it was Brad Fiedel.

While I love Fiedel's theme, the rest of the score is really nothing. Any composer can do what he did for the terminator films.
It's really just simple synth music. I actually would love to hear the theme played with a full orchestra (much like Ottman's theme for Halloween: h20) and hear the rest like that as well with big grand sound. Fiedel can't do that. His score would consist of low siren sounds.

You should get the Erich Kunzel compilation "The Great Fantasy Adventure Album." It contains a very powerful adaptation of the Terminator theme (though the sound effects they use in the background are a little distractiing).

I think Beltrami is an intriguing choice. I'm looking forward to it!

    I agree!

Fiedal's scores may not make for great stand alone music (I don't have either album) but there's no doubt that his scores fit the films like a glove.

Terminator 3 doesn't make me catch fire (neither does Beltrami's music!), I hope I'll be pleasantly surprised!

For all those of you having horrible Beltrami-scored nightmares, maybe Our Man Marco will be authorized to use Fiedel's TERMINATOR theme and adapt it, much like Ottman could use Carpenter's themes for H20.

Beltrami's one of the more talented of the younger guys (those younger than 40).
His only problem right now is that while he has some good ideas, he rarely gets the opportunity to write for extended sequences, which would really let his music breathe.

If you think all he does is slashing strings, then you haven't heard the diversity in his music. He isn't only Scream and Mimic.

Amen! I point out LAND'S END, DAVID AND LISA, and TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE as great examples of his variety.

I'd like to hear more of the 'Julliard(?)Education' than the 'Rescore in 10 days for Miramax' side of Beltrami.

For a neat contrast of this true playing the albums for Scream 3 and The Watcher back to back. Scream 3 is a horrendous pile of doo-doo, damn near an unlistenable bore(and I LOVE horror scores!), that sounds like it was slapped together from every string sting the composer ever jotted out for Miramax.
On the other hand The Watcher is a thrilling listen, full of intelligent, polyrhythmic writing and instrumentation(you have to look just a bit past the techno parts to get all this). Not to mention, Watcher is a tight, thematic listen that tells the story.

Also, his habenera for The Faculty is one of the better(and unexpected)themes I've heard from a new film in many years.

NP: Creature From The Black Lagoon - An MMM masterpiece!

LOL - yeah. Knew I forgot something there!

Also, don't forget THE DANGEROUS LIVES OF ALTER BOYS, which while not as "sentimentally sweet" as I AM DINA or DAVID AND LISA, still shows off a different side of Beltrami's skills.
