I finally got THE SLIPPER AND THE ROSE soundtrack in mail today and now I'm whirling and twirling the night away "...when she daaaanced with meeeee..." (If only these icons could jump up and down, they would express my emotions most perfectly).

I just started wondering that am I still missing some gorgeous Hollywood waltzes - from movies or movie musicals or television ? They can be sweeping, pure dance music (like THE SLIPPER AND THE ROSE, John Morris' ELEPHANT MAN, etc), or then intensely aggressive but glorious action/horror stuff (like again John Morris' ELEPHANT MAN or Goldsmith's LEGEND ["The Dress Waltz"], etc)....

Tell me your favorite waltzes !!

    KEN

NP. "...the night she daaanced with meeee..."

Can't let a thread like this go without mentioning Boys From Brazil.

I think its interesting how waltzes are often used not as dance music but as score to represent some unhealthy or downright creepy material.

    Here's just a few:

    The Haunting
    The Fury
Gladiator (Not played as a waltz, but the cue for that brutal battle sequence was written as a waltz according to Hans Zimmer. It certainly sounds like one.)
    Boys From Brazil
    Batman
    Legend

The waltz from Madame Bovary !!!

Also The Orgy from Conan the Barbarian and the main theme from Around the World in 80 Days sound like waltzes to me.

Franz Waxman composed a few as well. There is a nice re-recording of the "Cafe Waltzes" from Hotel Berlin on the "Legends of Hollywood Volume 3" disc.

Circus Circus from Diamonds Are Forever - John Barry

Just As You Were from King Rat - john Barry

Not my favorite waltzes, good though they are, it's just nobody mentioned them!

La "Valse Crépusculaire" (Twilight Waltz) from Providence (Miklos Rozsa) to which I am deeply emotionally connected; a truly beautiful piece.
