In the Topic thread "WHAT ARE THE MOST WANTED UNRELEASED SCORES?" Mr. Belfan of jwfan.net / .com posted:

"The apologies should be for posting (once again) the title of your message in ALL CAPS. I've already emailed you about this. It IS extremely annoying and arrogant.
Paul, I *still* have some respect for you. I wonder how long this is gonna last."

The e-mail he refers to says:

"Would it be possible to stop writing the title of the announcements you post in every major film music forum in ALL CAPS?
    It gets extremely annoying.
Thanks, and sorry if I sounded harsh."

Before I say anything I wish to say that not long ago Mr. Belfan was extremely helpful in working a way around a problem I was having posting to his Message Board. I acknowledged & thanked him for his help at the time.

Until these 2 messages, that is the full extent of our communications with one another.

Some of you out there know I have been writing about film music for years. Others may only recently have seen my name attached to the Movie Poop Shoot site.

Either way, I very much hope that anyone who has even the most fleeting of familiarity with me knows that I have never intended to be annoying or arrogant.

I have absolutely no time or inclination to offend anyone or make enemies in this business. So in a spirit of genuine camaraderie & curiosity, I put it to all those reading & conceivably annoyed by my having posted in capital letters a couple of times:

    Is it a problem?

If more than a couple of you reply in agreement, then I do offer Mr. Belfan my abject apologies for being unaware of this breach of film music societal etiquette.

If however it turns out this has been nothing more than a monumental waste of mine & everybody else's time, I trust a similar apology from him will make its way here.

    IN CAPITALS.

    Expectantly,

    PAUL TONKS

Paul, there is no set "etiquette" for topic titles, but I personally feel that all caps is not a good thing. I think that's generally how others feel as well.

Whenever I see all caps, I tend to associate it with a spam email and just pass over it. I FIND THAT STUFF WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS IS MORE DIFFICULT TO READ, AS WELL.

I really don't think there has been any harm done here. Ricard was a bit too harsh about it and you're taking what he said too seriously.

Just make your future topic titles without all of the caps (like this one ) and people will forget about this.

I know. That's why I was negatively surprised to see your announcements in all caps in every film music board and discussion list. And I used the terms "annoying" or "arrogant" to refer to the act of posting the message titles in all caps.

    Me neither.

I know it is a problem for many people. That's why many discussion forums (like mine), ask their users to not type their posts in all capitals, including the subject line.

You don't need to apologize. I already understood what the problem was.

You have my most sincere apologies for my reply in the other thread. I just hope you understand my worry.

And thanks for your post. The issue is settled for me.

While I think Mr. Befan runs a nice site, I think the problem with all caps is tied into his site's anal nature. I mean, this is a site that repots on John Williams' bowel movements.

Speaking of bowel movements, folks need to lighten up. This is film music, it's not serious.
