It has been a while since I asked for help on this. It has been almost a year, and the time is almost up. Please help even if you don't care to buy these type of soundtracks, if for no other reason than to help your fellow film and TV score fans who would like to see these CDs produced. Thank you in advance. For your convenience, the petition is printed below...Please take a moment of your time to help in this little crusade, and yes, everyone counts and is important here.
Almost a year ago, my husband got me to write up a proposal to CD manufacturers in an attempt to get a new series of soundtracks made. We're collectors and this is the only way to get something made when you want to buy it.
The petition reads as follows and the URL is http://www.petitiononline.com/tetalola/petition.html
To: Soundtrack CD Production companies
We are the fans and supporters of many forms of entertainment and have all come together to plea to the various manufacturers of audio soundtrack CDs to produce what we have literally waited for years to buy and add to our collections. You see, most of us are collectors of memorabilia. We loved the things in our childhood that were our entertainment because it brought us together. This memorabilia takes us all back to a simpler time and still brings us together today. Music has always been important to us, and it still remains the same.
All of us grew up in the 60's, the 70's, the 80's, and even the 90's and we watched television during those years as we achieved adulthood. Our favorite programming was animated cartoons. We loved all types of cartoons and many of these will be the topic of future pleas (unless you save us the trouble and produce them before we have to address it to you). The type of cartoon we are addressing at this point, however, are the many SUPER HERO cartoons and live-action television shows that were are passion as children (and also even to some of us who were watching as adults). We still buy videos today which have these old episodes collected in volumes and we watch them with the same wonder and imagination as we did as children.
The stories are not as complex as we remember and the animation is a far cry from achieving the level of today's standards. The things that have not changed, however, are the characters we loved/love and the MUSIC. In many cases, the most professional product installed in these cartoons was the music. It was exciting with it's themes and cues that were made to cover all situations. The budgets were always limited so the various animation companies used the same cues over and over for all the various series that they produced. This just made said cues that much more memorable as we heard them over and over through the years. We can still play the music in our minds today, albeit not as easily as we would like to.
In the last decade collector's limited edition CDs have become a profitable item to many CD manufacturers. They are usually limited to a few thousand copies, contain multi-page inserts (16 or more pages) with lots of colorful pictures and notes, and frequently contain well over an hour of music. Said CDs usually retail at about $20. These frills would be nice to include on what we are about to request, but would not be absolutely necessary.
Simply put, we want Soundtrack CDs of our action cartoons!
The First release would be the one that has been the topic of many an internet message board, as well as in hobby retail stores and hobby conventions.
The late Hoyt Curtin was the music director at Hanna-Barbera Studios for decades. He along with such composers as Ted Nichols, Richard Olson, Bill Getty, and Howard Hanson produced some of the most exciting adventure music of all time. We can still hear this music today on Cartoon Network, Boomerang Channel, and on videos. What we really want, however, is to be able to listen to this wonderful music unadulterated with dialog and sound effects. These cues were used in such cartoons as JONNY QUEST, SINBAD JR., ATOM ANT, SPACE GHOST & DINO BOY, FRANKENSTEIN JR. & THE IMPOSSIBLES, SHAZZAN!, SAMSON & GOLIATH (a.k.a. YOUNG SAMSON), MOBY DICK & MIGHTY MIGHTOR, THE FANTASTIC FOUR, BIRDMAN & THE GALAXY TRIO, THE HERCULOIDS, DANGER ISLAND, THE THREE MUSKETEERS, THE ARABIAN KNIGHTS, MICRO VENTURE, THE ADVENTURES OF GULLIVER, THE SUPER-FRIENDS, and even the comedy cartoons when they needed some serious action music. We would like this library of cues compiled on a CD along with the many opening/closing themes of these cartoons listed above. If there is enough music for two volumes, we'll buy both!
If these sell well, and they will, then you can start with a series of similar releases. There are too many possiblities to go into at this time, but we will mention that the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's all had SPIDER-MAN cartoons that were well-loved and would be great marketing tie-ins with the upcoming big budget live-action movie to be released in 2002. There are plenty of other Marvel Comics cartoons, DC Comics cartoons, and Made-for-TV Super Heroes that have been on the networks and in syndication since the 60's that we would love to have the music for as well.
We think you have the idea now. We are your customers and you need to make what we want. You want us to buy it from you, and we want you to make it. It's a very simple arrangement, so get busy and make those deals. Most of this music has been laying around for years so the licensing shouldn't be too expensive. Our wallets are waiting! Thanks again, everyone!
with love as always,
Galina
