Well, after working with Marco Beltrami on Resident Evil, apparently Manson has got bitten by the film scoring bug, since it's just been confirmed that he will be scoring the Texas Chain Saw Massacre remake.

Now, this is quite an intriguing choice, & offers an interesting (& quite disturbing) indication of the direction the film could be taking. Now, hopefully this could be a weird, disturbing score playing like aggravated sound effects, kinda like the original (& indeed the more ambient moments of Resi). But, could this mean we're heading for some Resi style thrashing guitars over a pounding breakbeat? As we watch Andrew Bryniarski as Leatherface chasing someone in an over-edited MTV stylee? Oooh good grief, I could just picture that, & it sure ain't pleasant - and not in the right way!

    Thoughts, anyone?

Is he gonna use a chainsaw in the score?

Well, I'll give the man (?) a chance, but I have bad vibes about this. Manson is all image, like Alice Cooper and Ozzie Ozborne. Weird makeup and biting heads of budgeriegars isn't what horror scoring is about, in my humble opinion. Reminds me of when I used to buy horror mags as a (disturbed) youth, and had to wade through pages of baldy git wrestlers pretending to kill each other in the ring. What had that to do with horror movies? What has Manson and his ilk to do with film scoring? He may well do an effective score, but only if it's appropriately "faceless", instead of trying to be the star (which I fear may be the case).

(look, winking smiley overhead: sarcasm ahead! Thanks for the warning!!)

I hear the Main Title will be really loud Deaf Elk guitars accompanied by three drum sets playing different solos, and Manson screaming "MARILYN MANSON! over and over again.

    Should be good.

In my opinion, the music Manson did with Beltrami for RE wasn't all that bad and it went really well with the on screen action. But when you listen to it alone, it is just plain painful.

I actually really quite liked the Resi score in the film too, particularly the main title, which I think was predominently Manson. I'd quite like to have a proper score album for this one, featuring some of Beltrami's music too.
