Tim, I heard the similarity a few weeks ago when I first got to listen to the score. This is a simple case of temp-love... I doubt it was William Ross' preference to include that on the CD, nor his decision. Great stuff, otherwise!Jeron

TimT, I'll admit you've come a long way from the days when you didn't see any similarity between U-571 and Air Force One(Another case of temp-love).

Sad, yes - but when it comes down to whether or not you get the nice check at the end of the project, you do your best to stay on everyone's good side. When ya get bigger (A-list size), it's much easier to resist this, I'm sure.
I wouldn't fault Mr. Ross for this. I'm willing to bet he was just doing his job. He's a fine composer. If he were given the opportunity to score the scene the way he wanted to, I'm sure it would have been phenomenal and entirely original.
Just my thoughts...

They are the same type of heroic music, you could even swap them, but they don't sound the same. And I assume you only talking about one of the themes, because the score as a whole is nothing like Air Force One.

Al, looks like you're gonna have to take back what you said.

You're right, Jeron.TimT, you've gone full circle without knowing it.

Well you know, I don't care. I'm glad I don't hear the simularities! That means I can enjoy both scores better than you ever could!

LOL... now Tim, play nice. It's entirely possible to recognize similarities and still enjoy the music without letting it bother you. I do that all the time with James Horner.[Message edited by Jeron on 10-09-2002]

I agree with my pal Jeron on all points. I think Ross did a find job with the score, but I'm sure the "temp" issue was a large part of it.Tim, just enjoy the music.

I enjoyed Marvin's U-571 score in the film very much; it was almost as if Goldsmith himself had scored it!posted 10-09-2002 01:42 PM PT (US)
