Well...I just went to this site ( http://mbnet.fi/drowned/mundo/DAD/dad.htm )to hear a radio download of Madonna's James Bond theme song "Die Another Day" and all I have to say is "AHHHHHHHHH!!!!"Anyone who bitched about David Arnold's song for "The World Is Not Enough" is going to really wish he was given a chance to do this one with a REAL singer.
Man...is that electronic voice tweaking that runs through this song annoying or what??? Ever since Cher did that with "Believe," it's become a terrible trendy thing to do.
Who needs a "real" singer when you just end up sounding like a robot anyway?
Give me Shirley Bassey! Give me Sheena Easton! Give me k.d. lang!!!! This song is CRAP.
I think we should all send our condolences to David Arnold that the "powers that be" went for the marketing appeal of Madonna and didn't give him the opportunity to do the theme song this time around. It's truly a sad thing.

Hmm. Did Madonna actually write the Bond song (no, I haven't heard it yet), or did David Arnold have anything to do with it? I've found some of her newer stuff somewhat listenable (doesn't mean I like it), especially with all the vocal training she received prior to EVITA, and figured she'd have enough natural voice not to have it modified electronically. But if what you say is true...ack! Hopefully Arnold can deliver with his score. And yes, it's a shame someone with a really sultry voice, like Lang, isn't singing the song. Her performance on Surrender is brilliant, and the whole song is my favorite Bond song. This might not be saying much, however, since I haven't heard most of them!

Ok, "Surrender" from Tomorrow Never Dies was a crappy song. KD Lang has a great voice, I agree, but she needed a better song that isn't relegated to the end of the movie where it will be heard seldom.Unfortunately, she's not who I want to hear perform a song for Bond, really. She makes good if not great music otherwise- but the 007 producers have yet to tap into some other artists who should've been doing the title song a long time ago.
I'm still in the process of downloading the song, so I can't give my opinion on it yet.
But the way I see it, it could be worse.
It could be the SPICE GIRLS reunited.

Listening to it right now...I think the processing of her vocals blends in with the whole "Ice" motif of the teaser posters, the first trailer (the cars on the frozen lake, etc.)
Otherwise... blearchh.

I think Madonna could have done a really good job. I'd really like to know who decided on this crappy way of doing the song.
Heck, there are any number of talented singers who could do the title song, some of them even "non-contemporary." Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benetar, Rindy Ross, Shania Twain, among others.
However, I really didn't mind what Sheryl Crow did for "TND" and Shirley Manson (and Garbage) for "TWINE."

This IS the job Madonna did. She wrote & produced this "number" with her recent collaborator Mirwais Ahmadzai. ANYTHING would have been better than this. The electronic vocal tweaking does NOT make me think "ice." It makes me think Robot.David Arnold had NOTHING to do with this song.
The strings aren't bad, but that is courtesy of Michel Colombier.

This song is the suckiest of all James Bond song...Even the Sheryl Crow effort had some more merits than this piece of techno pile of garbage... The string orchestration is the only good thing about this but it doesn't make this pile of crap any better.

What a piece of **** ! I am really dissapointed. When I heard the song "American Pie" I started to hate Madonna. Broccoli, will you please throw her away and let David Arnold replace this awfull tune. Arnold is able to do a great job, I am really mad about the song "Surrender" from Tomorrow Never Dies". It kicks ass!NP. Die Another Day (AARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH) It has nothing to do with a 007 movie

This CAN'T be it! It's a discrace to the Bond franchise! Unless you know something we don't Dan (which you might), I have heard that Okenfold is remixing the james bond theme itself not madonna's DAD theme. I think this is the real deal unfortunately. Where is arnolds lush orchestrations? Where are some classy beats? (rather than that club beat). I mean, I'm sure that the song will be a hit in clubs and strip clubs all accross the U.S., but come on.... I just dont see this in a bond title sequence. Damn, as a HUGE bond fan, I find this song an embarrasment and an outrage and am boycotting it from my collection. Is it me? Or is the bond franchise losing it's "classy" edge?Rich

This song is a dissapointment to all Bond fans, moviemusic fans, and probably Madonna fans too.I had high hopes for this collaboration. Now I'm hoping this isn't it.

For the record...David Arnold had NOTHING to do with this song! The string arrangements are by Michel Colombier.Just trying to protect Mr. Arnold's good name from this atrocity.

it is official all.... this IS the real deal, like it or not, it is going to be heard over the pre credit sequence. Also, apparently the "actual" song is slower then this song that has leaked.Don't believe me? try this link from warner borthers' site, it is the real radio edit in full CD quality at the bottom of the page, and DAMN, it's here to stay.

Sadly not. Paul Tonx was at the sessions. (His column will be up tomorrow)

What do you mean this is going to be played over the pre credit sequence? Wouldn't it be played DURING the credit sequence?I'd be damned if this song was playing during the opening hover craft chase sequence I've been hearing about. THAT'S JUST GOING TOO FAR!

Coming from not only a complete David Arnold freak, but also a guy who LIVES and BREATHES James Bond - I think this song is just fine. Sure, I wish David would written the song instead. It would have been GREAT. But I'm far from unhappy with what Madonna has come up with. Can't wait for the film!

What's this? Something Jeron likes? Surely some mistake? (sorry)Personally, I quite like the song. It sounds pretty much as I would have expected from Madonna & Ahmadzai. It's very similar to stuff from her Music album, particularly the title track, & my favourite Madonna track, Impressive Instant. It's very chic, contemporary, electro Euro-pop. Of course, the trouble is that whilst is sounds very much like modern Madonna (which is what was was always going to sound like), it doesn't really sound like the classic Bond sound, which is a shame. And it's a shame that David Arnold wasn't involved. And I'm not too convinved about the repeated use of the the phrase "I'm gonna" either. As in "I'm gonna break the cycle" Hmmmmm.
But yeah, I quite like it actually.

LOL - shush you, Pete. BTW, What's wrong with 'gonna'? Personally, I feel that even though this doesn't feel like a traditional Bond song, it still feels like a Bond song. I'm sure a lot of people said the same thing about a few of the quintessential songs from the past performed by edgy artists of the time. We'll see if this one lasts! Tomorrow Never Dies, while certainly not a GREAT Bond song (and certainly not as great as Surrender) seems to have been accepted (by all but film music fans). Who cares what WE think?

Yeah, I just listened to the slower version. An improvement. I was getting a little worried with that first "dance mix" kinda version. Guess I'll just have to get used to this. Still, bring on Jamiroquai or something. Oh yeah, I still believe that Beck would do a kick ass Bond song.

The version that Rich Douglas linked to a couple posts above is the slower version. The link on the first post by Bond1965 is more of a dance mix for the radio.

This song has really grown on me, despite my initial reaction of horror. The repeated motif is quite catchy, and gets a great outing at the 2:00 mark (album version).
I also love the strings from 2:38 to 2:53...
Still curious to see how this matches the visuals....

OK, Madonna was paid to write and perform this smelly pile?Too much electronic crap. She's stuck in the '70s "oooh, I have a new keyboard, let me show it off" phase.

Unfortuantely this isn't the style I was hoping they would use for the next Bond song. I think Madonna 1988-1995 style would have been better.Oh well, while my wife agrees that this song isn't worthy of Bond she does admit it is catchy. Of course that means I won't be able to hit the skip button....sigh.
