If I´m not mistaken, "The Ring" opens in the US October the 18th....but I don´t have any news about Zimmer´s score for this film......well, I know Jim Dooley is composing additional music for Hans, but that´s not a knew, isn´t it? :P
If somebody has listened something of The Ring music, please share with us your thoughts. See You!

Right now there is NO score release planned.

If one happens, it would be later, probably around the time of the home video release, and would be coupled with another Zimmer score.

Hey, maybe those brilliant marketing execs will bring forth an equally brilliant solution!

Maybe they'll release Zimmer's THE RING and Shore's THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS as a dual CD package!

I mean, they're both about rings, riiiight?

I don't know if the music in some of the TV Spots is the score, but it sounded like track 7 from Hannibal slowed down or remixed... Anyway, I hope this is a great score and gets a great release...

I think that was indeed from the score (which was recorded with "the Hannibal orchestra" - all celli and violas).

HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS was definitely released, I think by Virgin. Runs 43:33, including a song.

Just like to add that the House of Spirits is an excellent score. Near the top of the list in my Zimmer collection. Not that it matters are has anything to do with The Ring...

It's kinda surprising knowing that Hans' score won't be release for a while, if not at all, seeing how it's a big release for Dreamwork and all.

This movie was GREAT!. Saw it 4 nights ago. Great movie, with sparse and GREAT use of music. Not much of a theme is "present" but lots of interesting work and soundscape. A passage from Hannibal was used, you know the one you heard in the trailer, but different orchestration as well as bing slower and more deliberate. Everything from the horse ranch on was GREAT!.
I hope this movie get some 100mil box office draw so that all of Hans' score would be released easier.

Did I mention that this movie and its score is great!

    Everything work

nevermind.. I answered my own question, he does in fact work for MV. Damnit! Does Zimmer ACTUALLY score anything anymore or do just his apprentices score it for him so they can get their music out there with his name slapped on the film. Apparently, this dooley guy (who is knew to me anyway) did music for an everlasting piece, spirit, and riding in cars with boys (all supposedly "Zimmer" films). This just pisses me off. I want to actually hear Zimmer when his name is slapped on the credits. The one positive note however is that the clips from "the ring" are actually the ones I was wanting to get my hands on.

Rich, why are you so pissed off?

Zimmer wrote the score for THE RING, and additional music was written by Jim and two other guys, to help out when the post-production schedule got crammed. Everyone is credited appropriately in the film credits.

Unlike some other composers who use ghostwriters heavily - without crediting them - Zimmer gives everyone the credit they deserve. What's so wrong with that?

And Rich, read the IMDB credits a little more closely. Jim was Zimmer's assistant on "Everlasting Piece" and "Riding in Cars With Boys", as well as others.

ooooooooo.... my bad Dan. I guess i should have checked out goold ole IMDB before posting. Sometimes I do wonder if Zimmer uses his name to get some of his composers' music into films though (like Badelt).

Sounds great, like a slightly darker Hannibal.

A question: what is the extent of Dooley`s involvement in these compositions as the clips from Spirit utilise large parts of what I thought to be one of Zimmer`s main themes for the film? Is it a similar route to what Davis did with Williams` themes for Jurassic Park III; adapting thematic material around his original score pieces, or has Dooley actually come up with some of the themes himself?

I hadn't gotten around to listen to the sound clips...But I was just referring to what I "heard" while watching the movie. Though I did notice one prominent bass theme that I really like.

I'll go download the clips now. I DLed all of JD's clip when the site first came online.

saw the movie a couple days ago.

    wonderful.

that music was damned good, too -- and you all have an inkling at just how much praise that is coming from me.

Many lesser scorse than this get releases while good ones suffer. ah well, eventually.

Well, the theme that I was thinking of is not there, but the Hannibal style cue is there. Which pretty much reinforce my theory that Hans doesn't deal with "quoting" his own stuff, but leave it to his proteges. Lighthouse Music is a too much of an meandering underscore, but the Overboard cue hint at JD as a pretty interesting composer to look forward to...
I do wish for a nice release of the score soon.

Just saw the movie an hour ago. There's not that much music in the movie which is good. The movie is good and the suspence is there. ;-) Now, for the music itself, the "Hannibal" like cue is in the movie only at 2 places...the rest of the music is mostly a soft piano theme with sometime a violin in the background. No memorable themes there, but the music fit the images of the movie I think. ;-)

And for the person who said that Zimmer give the "quoting" job to his proteges, why not saying that maybe Dooley did that "Hannibal cue" in Hannibal and decided to "reuse" it in The Ring? Like Nick Glennie-Smith did for The Rock and The Man In The Iron Mask. But that's just my opinion. ;-)

    Regards

Um, because Hans actually wrote the original The Rock theme...

And with regard to the issue about proteges....It has been my experience that when Hans parses out the workload, he has to first establish the sound to be used, thus the need to use the themes that he already used...Just look at Time Machine, Jim Dooley wrote the "First Flight" cue but uses Klaus's theme. Hans has been known to reinterpret sub themes from his previous score and fleshes them out in his later scores...Now, it just seems that he's not interested in that anymore..
