Gotta love being a soundtrack fan/shopper in LA. U never know what you're going to find...Nothing too rare or outstanding yesterday, but I did pick up Kamen's COMPANY BUSINESS for like four bucks (I've never been able to suffer through the film in my life and have actually yet to put the disk in my cd player, but for that price, why not).
- RICH IN LOVE for four bucks. I love Delerue. I really do. I don't think I own a bad score of his (though I'm always tempted to get MAN TROUBLE whenever I see it, and I'm sure that's stinky, but maybe not?). This one's as equally gorgeous as the rest of them. Never forget the day I found AGNES OF GOD for a buck, bought it, and listened to it every day for like a week. Anyone who's yet to pick any of his stuff up, I recommend that ya do. I wish i owned JOE VS. VOLCANO because that score used to get me to watch the movie all the time before I realized I actually loved the film on its own terms. Did Varese sell out on that...? Anyone? Bueller?
THE RAPTURE. This one, for me, was a bit of a rarity. Never seen the s/track, but seen the movie several times. I remember some about the film, nothing about the score. But it was Thomas Newman and it was five bucks and I love Thomas Newman. I saw JOSH and S.A.M. on cable last month and got the score b/c there was good stuff I noticed in the film, so...maybe this'll turn out to be an equally rich gem.
I had to pass on NEAR DARK, just because...well, I'm broke right now. I wish I didn't because this is the third time I've seen it in as many weeks, and having just watched part of the film again on dvd (GORGEOUS, it looks, GREAT this film is, YODA i am now talking like) I realized it's actually a decent Tangerine Dream score (since they're, for me, hit and miss in terms of effectiveness and score listenability).
Just felt like sharing for no particular reason and because crap-all is coming out right now and, well, we don't ever jabber about random scores of the past decade or so anymore. So I'm taking the initiative.
Next time -- LARGER THAN LIFE. Why do I own this????? (because it has one cute little cue in it, that's why, and it was free!)
Peace.
P.S. I seem to remember a HOUSESITTER soundtrack for some reason the summer that film came out. Now, it's gone, never seen it again, but then maybe muh mind's just playing tricks on me. I love this movie and the score's a simple and probably short but very cute romantic comedy score. Anyone have the 4-1-1 on that? It's the Steve Martin/Goldie Hawn flick, just so's you know, because there's so many other similar-sounding titles around there. Thanks!

I love the Rich in Love score. Okay, so not very manly music, but oh well.As far as I know, Varese have not sold out of Joe Versus the Volcano. I don't think that at this point they could have sold that many anyway. Their website does not indicate whether ANY of the new Club CDs are close to being sold out. (Some of those scores are so good, they should've sold out already, though
.On a similar note, when you get the money, you ought to try the new Delerue CD that just came on the Disques Cinemusique label. It's a score called Un Homme Amoureux(A Man in Love). It is short, but GORGEOUS. This label claims that they are dedicated to releasing a lot more Delerue items, but when I emailed them asking them if they would able to release something like Chouans!, all I got in reply was to be added to their email database, as I received a marketing message of some sort.
I'm probably the only person to have bought that particular CD so far...would it have been to much acknowledge my email?
but I digress....posted 09-19-2002 07:15 AM PT (US)

The next Delerues score on Disques Cinemusique is another limited edition (1000 copies):Promise at Dawn from 1970
Looking forward to it, as Delerue is a favorite. I like his music more than JJassH.
Both Promise at Dawn and the previously released Un Homme Amoureux, as well as Disques Cinemusique's other releases (four French TV show scores on two CDs) will be available from the MovieMusic Store in time for $1 shipping.
