It's a solid listen, though I'll have to do a revised version once I have The Dark Crystal and my selection of Herrmann's fantasy music has expanded.

I've never shared tracklists any of the compilations I've made before. I've got my Howard Shore 2CD comp. on right now, so I think I'll share. This was previously released as The Truth About Howard Shore, but I've since added many Shore scores to my collection, so the compilation had to be adjusted.
Many apologies if this does not fit the "new" criteria.

    CD 1
    Total Time: 71:11

    1. Suite from Big (6:41)
    2. The Truth About Cats and Dogs (2:01)
    3. Mrs. Doubtfire (3:00)
    4. Suite from Before and After (4:16)
    5. Suite from Prelude to a Kiss (4:58)
    6. Suite from The Cell (9:28)
    7. Cop Land (4:18)
    8. Crash (3:36)
    9. eXistenZ (3:07)
    10. The Fly (1:54)
    11. Suite from Dead Ringers (4:55)
    12. Suite from Dogma (6:14)
    13. Ed Wood, 'Elysium' (2:16)
    14. M Butterfly (2:02)
    15. Suite from The Game (4:56)
    16. Suite from The Yards (7:56)

    CD 2
    Total Time: 73:13

    7. Suite from Naked Lunch (4:34)
    8. Nobody's Fool (1:08)
    9. Suite from Looking for Richard (8:15)
    10. Lotr:FOTR 'The Bridge of Khazad Dum' (5:57)

I used to put compilations together all the time but when I got a CD changer in the car, I moved away from that. It occurred to me, though, that I should have some discs around for when I've cycled through everything in the changer and I need something to listen to. My most recent compilation came from a need to play around with the Musicmatch software and see if I could come up with something and easy just using that program and nothing else. I was very pleased with the results. Starting from MP3s, the software converted them to music files and recorded them in the order I wanted on the disc. What's great is that it only took a few button clicks to get it all done. Here's what I came up with, a compilation I have affectionately named Johnny Jam I.

    1. Superman - Prelude
    2. The Fury - For Gillian
    3. Dracula - Night Journeys
    4. Jaws 2 - Main Title
    5. Monsignor - With The Holy Father
    6. Jaws 2 - Towards Cable Junction
    7. The Fury - Main Title
    8. Superman - Escape From Krypton
    9. Monsignor - Gloria
    10. The Fury - Gillian's Escape
    11. Monsignor - Santoni's Compassion
    12. Jaws 2 - Ballet For Divers
    13. Dracula - To Scarborough
    14. Monsignor - Meeting In Sicily
    15. Jaws 2 - The Menu
    16. Monsignor - Reunion In Italy
    17. The Fury - Remembering Robin
    18. Superman - Trip To Earth
    19. Jaws 2 - Brody Misunderstood
    20. Monsignor - Forgotten Vows
    21. The Fury - Gillian's Power
    22. Jaws 2 - End Title, End Cast

I'm listening to my latest compilation right now - "Best of the West" - 35 years of music composed for Westerns. This is hardly all-inclusive, it's just 80 minutes of some of my own favorites, including a few "guilty pleasures;"

THE BIG COUNTRY - Jerome Moross
    THE ALAMO - Dimitri Tiomkin
THE MAGNIFICEN SEVEN - Elmer Bernstein
HOW THE WEST WAS WON - Alfred Newman
SONS OF KATIE ELDER - Elmer Bernstein
DUEL AT DIABLO - Neil Hefti
HOUR OF THE GUN - Jerry somebody
THE BIG GUNDOWN - Ennio Morricone
THE LAND RAIDERS - Bruno Nicolai
THE WILD BUNCH - another Jerry (Fielding)
DAY OF ANGER - Riz Ortolani
WILD ROVERS - the first Jerry
LAWMAN - the other Jerry again (Fielding)
    THE COWBOYS - John WIlliams
THE MAN WHO LOVES CAT DANCING - John Williams
TAKE A HARD RIDE - JG
    SILVARADO - Bruce Broughton
DANCES WITH WOLVES - John Barry
WYATT EARP - James Newton Howard
    TOMBSTONE - Bruce Broughton

Westerns sure did inspire a lot of magnificent music. Pity the genre is no longer very popular. Slashers and mass murderers just don't inspire great tunes I guess.

I've always had a fondness for Duel At Diablo... I initially wrote the whole thing off. I mean, come on, that Batman guy scoring a Western? But then I caught the beginning of the picture, heard the theme and I just could NOT get it out of my head for days. Go, Neal Hefti, go!

Mark T., wherever you may be, a copy will be along to you direcly!

Jarre hecklers, stand down....I've heard it all before I dig Jarre's sound, so kindly get bent
    Sean

I've been chipping away at a Jarre compilation myself. Details are forthcoming. There's a nice spread of material on yours, Sean. Including a couple of pieces I've never heard such as Weekend At Zydecote and Therese Desqueyroux. Nice...

I know, it was kinda hard to pair down that material....Witness, not my favorite synth score of his(I prefer No Way Out, but tried to keep the synth material WAY down, since everyone seems to hate that, and the thought behind this compilation was to turn people onto Jarre a bit). Red Sun....I am shamed, don't have that yet

    OK, my turn!
I just finished up a Horner CD, compiling what I termed his more "dramatic" works. I titled it 'James Horner: A Flair for the Dramatics".

    Here is the track list:

    1. "A Father's Lagacy" from MAN WITHOUT A FACE
    2. "The Launch" from APOLLO 13
    3. "End Credits" from HOUSE OF CARDS
    4. "Deciding to Build the Field" from FIELD OF DREAMS
    5. "End Credits" from GLORY
    6. "The Martys/Makings of a Fine Soldier" from THE FOUR FEATHERS (I merged these 2 tracks into one)
    7. "The Ludlows" from LEGENDS OF THE FALL
    8. "To The Boys" from LEGENDS OF THE FALL
    9. "A Healing Balm" from THE SPITFIRE GRILL
    10. "End Credits" from JOURNEY OF NATTY GANN
    11. "Gathering the Clans/The Battle at Stirling" from BRAVEHEART (again, I combined 2 tracks into one)
    12. "A Lark in Clear Air" from IRIS

I nearly always prefer to listen to the full thing, so I usually don't make compilations. I did make a fun one a few days ago though, so I thought I'd share. Actually belongs on the classical board, but I don't think I should start a separate thread just for this.

    Interpretations

    1. Leonard Bernstein: Overture to Candide (New York Philharmonic, Bernstein)
    2. Leonard Bernstein: Overture to Candide (LSO, Bernstein)
    3. Leonard Bernstein: Overture to Candide (LA Philharmonic, Bernstein)
    4. Leonard Bernstein: Overture to Candide (? - from a CDR, can't remember who performs it)

    5. Jean Sibelius: Finlandia (Berliner Philharmoniker, Rosbaud)
    6. Jean Sibelius: Finlandia (Kamen - from the "Die Hard II" soundtrack)
    7. Jean Sibelius: Finlandia (Berliner Philharmoniker, Karajan)
    8. Jean Sibelius: Finlandia (Bournemouth SO, Berglund)
    9. Jean Sibelius: Finlandia (Philharmonia Orchestra, Ashkenazy)

    10. Anton Bruckner: Te Deum - Aeterna fac (Berliner Philharmoniker, Jochum)

Just recently put together JERRY GOLDSMITH: INNER WORKINGS...with an emphasis on seminal tracks that encapsulate the essence of the score.

STAR TREK: TMP - Inner Workings
    FOREVER YOUNG - Test Flight
    TORA! TORA! TORA! - Entr'acte
THE SUM OF ALL FEARS - The Mission
    POLICE STORY - The Tail
    THE WALTON'S - Opening Theme
ACE ELI & RODGER OF THE SKIES - First Flight
A PATCH OF BLUE - Chores
MOM & DAD SAVE THE WORLD - Misunderstood
    DENNIS THE MENACE - Opening
    MALICE - MT
KING SOLOMON'S MINES - No Sale
    THE MUMMY - Tauger Attack
THE OMEN - The New Ambassador
AIR FORCE ONE - The Hijacking
    EXECUTIVE DECISION - The Ramora
THE FINAL CONFLICT - The Second Coming
STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT - Flight of the Phoenix*
    BARNABY JONES - Theme
    MASADA - The Slaves
    CAPRICORN ONE - The Celebration

Does anyone know where I can get a hold of a copy of Ron Jones' STARFLEET ACADEMY?

Hey, Todd! Wasn't Ron Jones offering STARFLEET ACADEMY on his website? What about Screen Archives?

And boy, those Goldsmith comps are always tough. There is so much great stuff I could never pare it down to 1 or 2 tracks. I might do themed comps, such as for his horror or action scores.

Question: Wouldn't "The Dogs Attack" better sum up the essence of THE OMEN, better than "The New Ambassador"? I just think it distills more of what THE OMEN was all about - fierce, relentless choir and brutal brass!

Dude...I looked on Jones' website and it is not there anymore...or at least the address I had wasn't there. Yeah, The Dogs Attack is a better cue that fully distills Goldsmith in The Omen, but really....I was just in the mood for "The New Ambassador" that day and was just making an excuse to slap it on the disc. This isn't science youy know! Wish me luck in court Friday (f*cking speeding ticket!)

Also....kudos to those folks working on a Maurice Jarre compilation. Really a challenge to put something good together that flows nicely. I too dig Jarre's music and have been contemplating the time I will spend trying to cobble together a decent Jarre disc.

Speeding ticket?! Todd, man, slow the f*ck down and watch that temper! Good luck regardless, and your Goldsmith seems like a good listen! Too bad you'll never appreciate my new Bond compilations...

Brian...I got probation. No points on the license. This was actually my first ticket in the 16 years I have been driving.

(Sorry to crowd this post with my legal problems!)
