The original version of
"Scott of the Antarctic" has just been released by Chandos.
It also contains the suite to "Coastal Command"
And the premiere recording to

Wow! I didn't know about this?...I WILL be getting it.Do I really have to mention that no true film music fan should be without RVW's 7th symphony which is based on this score?...hell yeah, I did have to mention it!

Great News!!Even greater news is that the CD is called Volume 1, which I suppose means they're be more CDs to come, maybe 49th Parallel or something else (depending on what sheet music they have).
There are a few cues here that weren't included in the symphony and it'll be nice to hear what RG does with them.

TimT:
Usually Chandos new releases take month or so to be available outside the UK.Lou:
I've heard that Chandos plans 3 volumes.Scores are available for:
-49th Parallel (I think most survives)
-Story of a Flemish Farm (already done by Marco Polo)
-The Loves of Joanna Godden
-The England of Elizabeth (done two or three times)
-Ten Blake Songs from the "Vision of William Blake" (also done two or three times)And then there is of course the score to "Bitter Springs", but it just uses a few themes by RVW. The remainder of the music is by Ernest Irving in RVW style, so I am not sure they will use it.

Crystal clear and excellently played though I'll have to give it some more listens before I can compare it with other versions, I'm sure we'll get around to discussing this on the classical page. It also includes Norfolk Rhapsody # 2 which has not been performed since 1914, I guess your aware that the Norfolk Rhapsodies were originally intended to be a Norfolk Symphony...the score to NR # 3 no longer exists

This may be premature but has anyone got hold of the 'Scott' cd yet?

GK--Go talk to Chandos and get them to do another Arnold CD, some Brian Easdale and some Clifton Parker. It's about time someone in England recorded these guys.

I think there's probably a good chance Chandos will get around to recording some more by those composers, more Arnold is of course welcome by me but I would love to see releases devoted to Easdale and Parker.I wonder what the chance of some Ron Goodwin 'Norman Wisdom', Miss Marple and other of his 1950's scores are?...that would be great!

The complete music to Bax' OLIVER TWIST and MALTA G.C. are recorded this month. Too bad they won't do JOURNEY INTO HISTORY. The TWIST will be different to Cloud Nine's (ASV) with Kenneth Alwyn conducting as new score material has appeared.
A new Richard Addinsell is also in the works. Another Rawsthorne also, if I remember right.

The Chandos RVW Scott Of The Antartic should be available here any week now, this is the first of 3 volumes of Vaughan Williams film music...yes that's right...THREE!
I'll soon be able to retire to my own Vaughan Williams heaven

Only complete re-releases of Barry's Bond scores could now make my ecstatic state complete!
