Justin, you only start these threads so you can blab about your boring "complete" discs. What's new this month?

    Complete POLICE ACADEMY 5?
    Complete THE WATERBOY?
    BIG FAT LIAR "recording sessions"?

    Yawn!

Dude, we've had these threads since the site's birth. Justin just happened to start it for September. Just once, I'd like to start the thread.

Don't tease. Seriously, I'd like to have "Big Fat Liar" and "The Waterboy" in my collection one day.

So while it may be bragging, that just what it is- bragging.

Why don't you just go make wild pasionate love to the devil, you know you want to.

Found a perfect, mint LP of Return of a Man Called Horse over the weekend(Rosenthal) for 2 bucks....GREAT score, very impressive, sounds like the great outdoorsy/pastoral/action scores of Goldsmith and Williams...if there isn't one(don't think there is) this really needs a cd release.

Sean, some of this music turned up on the first Laurence Rosenthal compilation released through Intrada several years ago. Great score, great composer...

PLANET OF THE APES (Danny Elfman) - It gets a bit chaotic in places, but it's still pretty good. Love those Main Titles (and the "Deconstruction" is even better - try this through good headphones).

Just picked these up last night:

GODZILLA: 1954 - 1975, kick-ass compilation, love the big band swing from the 70's films and the trippy guitar work. Also cool marches.

GODZILLA VS MEGAGUIRIS, most recent Godzilla score, haven't been through all of it but lots of thundering battle cues and exciting orchestral workouts.

MICHAEL COLLINS, for some reason I never got around to picking up the much-heralded Goldethal score, I see why it was praised so much since there are great moments throughout, nice vocals by Sinead.

THE CELL (Howard Shore) - I'm going to sit down and analyze this track by track. I'm sure that it's fascinating. But as a straight-through listen it's the most boring thing I've heard since I tried to listen to paint dry.

Yes, The Cell seems somewhat dumb. I trust the people who say it's great, but I guess I have to watch the movie to see why it is.

Great new stuff, thanks to the library:

    • Vertigo (Bernard Herrmann) - OST recording
    • Citizen Kane (Bernard Herrmann) - RSNO & McNeely; the Salammbo aria isn't as amazing as the Gerhardt recording, but this album is still great
    • The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (Bernard Herrmann) - RSNO & Debney - Also great
    • Zorba the Greek (Mikis Theodorakis) - All I knew before was the famous Sirtaki...but the whole score is amazing! Makes me want to jump up and dance, and I loathe dancing - never danced in my whole life.

The Cell is one the best scores I've heard.

definitely check out the isolated score on the DVD.

the percussion is incredible, as is the overall blend of the eastern and western musical styles.

    but that's just me.

I just got FSM's Above and Beyond release. 'tis quite good.

Damnit, Ryan. I got that set, too. I wanted to be the first to post it. It sounds a lot better away from the film. The "Scary Movie 2" theme is one of Elfman's best compositions in a while.

A good six or seven years back, Film Score Monthly ran a gag review for The Rambo Trilogy special edition set. The review is too long to type up here and I doubt I could make my way through it without laughing myself hoarse, as I did the first time I read it. The special edition set was laid out like the Arista Star Wars Special Edition set. Four discs, with one disc devoted to each movie and the fourth disc, a special grenade shaped CD, containing Sylvester Stallone's classic war arias. Some of the unreleased tracks included track titles like "Blowing The Asian's Head Off". It's still one of the funniest reviews I've ever read because it took itself completely serious and totally skewered the soundtrack collector mentality. Jeff Bond, if you're reading this, somebody over at FSM needs to type this thing up and put it up on the website for posterity.
