I've always wanted to own a record store or coffee shop mostly for the insane reason of playing film scores in a public venue. I would love to let my patrons enjoy the music as absolute music, divorced from the visuals, and they'd be free to let their imaginations soar. I would certainly Goldsmith, Barry, Jarre, Williams and Doyle and would live to play some challenging music by Goldenthal and Chris Young, but that might set some people off. I would probably have to stick to tonal scores.

Wonder Boys and Rounders by Christopher Young, Random Hearts by Dave Grusin, One Night Stand by Mike Figgis, Litania by Krzysztof Komeda-such kind of scores would suit i think...

Actually, we have this same problem at my work. We don't know what soundtracks to play, we don't want to depress people, we don't want to make them feel tense, we don't want them to feel like there's someone being murdered in the building, so we have no idea what to play. We mostly play John Williams' Greatest Hits, but when I come in I try to bring a wider variety of music cuz listening to the same thing over and over again gets annoying. Any suggestions?Clayton

- Alex North: DragonSlayer.
- Georges Delerue: The London Sessions.
- Leonard Rosenman: The Lord of the Rings.
- James Horner: Titanic.
- Something from the Star Wars guy.
- Ed Shearmur: Reign of Fire.
-> The last soundtrack that I bought... whatever it is: if I buy Harrison's Flowers tomorrow, I'll play that.

How about this? Why don't we all try to decide what the most beautiful movie melody ever written is...?Or has that one been done? How about if we just zip off a list of our 4 or 5 favorite scores...?

Well, geez, we can't have that, now, can we? After all this is a movie-music board, and a few jerks are expected to show up and ruin the thread for everyone. You know, like writing a thread to mention a composers' birthday and having it turned into a opportunity to bash his scores.... Familiar with that one? Although...instead of merely taking the opportunity to slam a composer, I'm just remarking, off-handedly, how stale our choices in threads has become, or how unchallenging they have become as a mental excercise....But seriously--truly, and without bitterness--don't take it personally. I'm frustrated in general with the system.
