    Hey guys,

Haven't heard much talk about this fantastic Percepto disc released just recently. Knowing Mizzy's television work, this is my first experience with his film (film) music and lemme tell ya, it is (as Taylor at Percepto has put it before) -- a real gem! Transferred directly from the masters, it's definitely a score from the 60's, but considering its age, wow, it sounds great! A completely fun disc. Recommended without hesitation...

    My 2 cents,
    Jeron

I'll second the motion! It comes with "The Perils of Pauline," which is a whole lot of fun in it's own right. I don't think Vic Mizzy wrote anything that wasn't fun. Some of his music makes neat party music too! More Mizzy! More Mizzy!

    Yup yup - it's like a Mizzy-fest or somthin'!

Haven't finished the album yet, but so far I'm really digging CAPER.

And don't forget the SUITES AND THEMES compilation album. Pure fun! Where else can you hear Phyllis Diller singing?

Thanks to everyone for chiming in on this one (especially after THE NIGHT WALKER debacle!)
Honestly, I guarantee you won't find two more obscure titles released on CD this year, but the scores are absolutely dynamite.

CAPER has an addicting get-up-and-cha-cha Latin-style theme running through it, while THE PERILS OF PAULINE plays like a romantic ode to the silent movie days, much like Mancini's THE GREAT RACE. I think Mizzy's score is on par with Mancini's, but then I'm obviously a little biased.

Now, on to THE GHOST AND MR. CHICKEN!

Even "The Night Walker" reminds me of Mancini at times. While Mizzy has his own instrumentation and styles, I really think Mancini fans will want to try one or more of his releases. Some of his music reminds me of classic '60s Mancini.

I am considering getting this CD, since I've recently become a Vic Mizzy fan.

Taylor, I have a question: it says at the site to check in late August for a track listing and audio samples of THE BUSY BODY/THE SPIRIT IS WILLING. It's pretty late in August now. What's happening?

Are you still releasing this with THE RELUCTANT ASTRONAUT?

I hope so. I saw a bit of THE RELUCTANT ASTRONAUT on TV last week. It was toward the end when Roy was in space. That had great music.

Reading the section of the liner notes (in SUITES & THEMES) devoted to the film, I read about the different types of music in the score and I thought to myself, "Man, this would make a great CD release". And putting it out with THE GHOST & MR. CHICKEN - I can't think of a more perfect double bill.

If they do release RELUCTANT ASTRONAUT, it will be interesting to see if they include the music that's playing in the background at "Kiddie Land". If my ears aren't playing tricks on me, it's the same tune that underscores Knotts first day at NASA as he's walking with Donelli (Jesse White) to the lockeroom.

I hate to try to get this thread back on topic, but...

I picked up this disc last week and I'm very pleased with it. The only other Mizzy I've heard is Don't Make Waves, which I highly enjoy when I'm in the right mood. These scores continue with that great 60's style that Mizzy seems to have had pretty well down pat.

I think I enjoy Caper a bit more than Perils of Pauline if only because I'm not a fan of that "old piano sound" present in much of the 'silent movie'-style score.

Both scores sound great, though Mizzy mentions that the presentation of Perils is two different recording sessions mixed together. The difference between the two sessions is fairly obvious but doesn't detract that much from the flow of the album.

The liner notes by Mizzy are great and I wish all liners could be as interesting as this one is. (Hello Prometheus.) It's all rounded off with a pleasing art direction from designWELL.

The only downside to the album would be the "not licensed for sale" disclaimer present on the CD, which is not visible on the outside of the packaging.
