Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but it seems that Poledouris' music is available on a 5.1 Surround DVD.

    Excellent!

Why is it that a foreign production company always seems to be able to bring fresh new merchandise products to existing commonplace technologies?

This is the way suondtracks should BE released!
Go Han Entertainment and thank you!

    I ordered a copy (autographed)

The Monkey King Enthralls sounds REALLY GOOD!!!!

As the movie is going to have an early 2003 U.S. release, shouldn't we expect to see a U.S. retail release of the soundtrack around that time? Dan?

I tried to play one of the themes, but I acquired a few new wrinkles while watching the words "loading" for infinity.

Thanks sweet Foobsie. Jonathan, you can't get it either? I'm frustrated with the wait time.

    Just received my copy TODAY!

Within 6 days of ordering. Shipping via DHL.
Excellent service. I took the chance with the site not being protected by SSL-technology.

In any event... the seller or owner of the store/website would be liable for all damages to my creditcard.

    The score is wonderful.
It's is equally divided among all 6 surround channels (one of them being the .1 / LFE/ subwoofer channel).
    Wonderful... JUST Wonderful!

    BRAVO Han Entertainment
    BRAVO Basil Poledouris

Ow and I purchased the autographed one..
    Really cool.
Brand new marketing scheme. Could change the way movies are marketed in future.

Does the disc have a Dolby Digital or dts track? I'm not DVD-A capable at this moment in my life... nor will I be for a few years.

    Dobly Digital 5.1

Will play on your DVD-V player. The disc is pressed using the DVD-V standard.

Yeah its a regular DVD-ROM, I don't think a DVD-A player could play it. But I don't know much about this DVD stuff this is only my 3rd one.

You also do not have to have a Dolby configuration either.

Other than the soundtrack, the DVD also has the movie trailers, behind the scenes looks, interviews of casts, screen shots, and the MTV music video. BUT there is NO mention of Basil Poledouris! No credit, no videos, no pictures, no comments, no mentions, no nothing! Screen Shots of the movie are shown during each cue, but they aren't named (only on the packaging, does it mention Poledouris did the music and track names.)

As for the score, it doesn't fit the type of Epic Adventure that this movie is trying to sell itself to be.
Instead it sounds like a score for a techno thriller, with a bit of mystery and fantasy in the Orient.
The theme is pretty, but is keeped restrained enough from becoming anything but epic. The majority of the score is like music for some kind of of Spy movie, quiet underscore that suits someone snooping around dangerous places in Asia, occasionally getting into trouble. Or running is into something mythical.
Despite what you see in the trailers, this is not an action movie, because there is very little action here, just precussion over an unenthusiastic sounding orchestra. Nothing like Under Siege 2 or StarShip Troopers. Perhaps what Crouching Tiger would have sounded like if it was given the modern approach.
The score also sounds rather low budget and I'm begining to wonder if the choir that appears a few times, is real. The score is orchestral but is kept on such a small scale that it sounds like a score for a TV film.

Other than about 10 min of the more dramatic music, I don't think this score is that fun.
Theres just nothing memorable about it, and its doesn't sound distinctivly like Basil Poledouris either. The best parts are when the theme pops up, as well as the dramatic moments. But the theres just too much filler music that occupies the over 65 min run time of the score. A good 10 min suite would probably be a more enjoyable listening experience for the non-completist fans of Basil Poledouris.

    Rating **
Best track 16. "I'll Never Leave You"

Basil Poledouris is mentioned by Michelle Yeoh in the last 10 minutes of the documentary and he also enlightens us as to how he composed and orchestrated the music and used the orchestra.

Interesting. The DVD version has 3 more score tracks, and the song is at the end.

How long is the music on the DVD?
The CD is about 66 minutes.

The score though is somewhat average. Need more listens to judge better, but first and second listens were not too exciting.

Somebody has to improve the distribution of this disc, because there is no way in hell a store in Hong Kong is getting my credit card info.
