Wow, looks like an awesome movie and great twist on the story. The animation looks superb. Liked the use of Williams' Far and Away in the trailor. Can't wait for this one.

Looks like James Newton Howard took over the reigns of Alan Menken. Looking foward to this score.

Whoa! JNH's music is FAR superior to most of the stuff Menken was writing, even when Menken was golden. Besides, the reigns were taken from Menken when Hans Zimmer scored The Lion King. Menken's scores were never quite the same. My opinion, of course.

JNH has had a great track record with Disney, I'm sure this one will be different.

Wow, that's kind of a negative thing to say about a score you haven't even heard, Brian... I thought you were looking forward to this one.

Woah. I don't know about that, Brian. I had heard good things about JNH's score to TREASURE PLANET. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see if his score is as piss poor as you think it might be.

    Woa,

Im like lost here. I have a feeling Brian mistyped there but if he didn't I must wonder why he would think the score is THAT lousy.

    Strange indeed...

Has anyone noticed that the recent crop of animated features coming out of features have been relatively songless especially ones score by JNH? Atlantis only had one song, and it was by an artist that I appreciate (Mya) while Dinosaur had nothing. Gee, I guess maybe Disney realized that a majority of their sales come from score geeks like us .

Well, my understanding was that JNH was signed to do three Disney films, so that's his involvement.

But if you look at the CD sales, you'll PROBABLY still find that the song-heavy albums sell better than the scores.

First...Titan A.E....then...Atlantis, the Lost Empire...and now we bring you...TREASURE PLANET!!

Has anyone noticed yet that these bloated sci fi animated movies always tank at the box office? Since Titan A.E. sank Fox's animation wing I wonder how much damage Treasure Planet will do to Disney's, which got hit pretty bad by Atlantis.

Yeah, I saw the trailer for TP, I mean TREASURE PLANET, and wasn't that impressed. As my friends remarked, it's "Treasure Island: Millenium Edition". I'm JNH's score will be great, so even though these animated sci-fi films are failing, at least they give us great, full-throttle orchestral scores that the live action films wouldn't touch with a ten-foot cattle prod!

I'm afraid my aging sensibilities were put off immediately by the skyboarding bit at the beginning of the trailer. It's Treasure Island...EXTREME!!! Yawn...

I thought the preview looked good so screw you all. I have never understood why you people can't take a movie for what it is.

I was drawn to the trailer by the use of Far and Away. I thought it made the movie more appealing. I agree with TV's Frank that even though the movie may tank, the score may be awesome. I'll listen to a great score, regardless of how well the movie does at the box office. Most of us will, right? Anyway, I think this film has a slight chance of making it (given Harry Potter doesn't crush it too badly ).

A Stargate rip-off, but a good one nonetheless.

The only similarity to Stargate I would make is the chevron/lambda/inverted "V" character used in place of an "A" in the title...

I wouldn’t want to push the similarity too far, but you can certainly make a case for the comparison.

Both films featured a geeky scientist guy who doesn’t really fit in with the rest of his companions. He’s there because they need someone who can translate this weird symbolic alphabet. The crew gradually comes to accept him and he gains more confidence in himself and ultimately decides to remain in the unique alien world that he helped discover and the survivors of the mission agree to cover for him while he helps the natives discover their lost language.

    Hmm… Maybe it’s closer than I thought!
