Herrmann's MYSTERIOUS ISLAND is one of my top five Herrmann favorites, and now that the Cloud Nine release of the original tracks is out of print, does anyone know if Varese will extend their series of Herrmann re-recordings to this Harryhousen classic?

That's right, Ed! Instead of lifting a finger to ask the people who might know, let's just sit here and conjecture about the whole thing. Cause it's just too hard to write an email.

    <sigh>

    Dan,

Chill out a bit dude. I'm sure "Ed" was just funnin' you.

If not, we'll do a search, find out who he is, and beat him up.

Part of the fun of this score is the original recording. While a longer, my dynamic recording might be interesting, the original tracks are too cool to go out-of-print.

No, Dan's right. It's much easier to send a message here than to Varese, though the real reason is that I prefer the pastel-violet color scheme of this site to Varese's more confrontational red-brown layout. Moviemusic.com is much more pychologically soothing.

Sad to say MYSTERIOUS ISLAND is out of print (at least at the moment), and yes I have sent a query off to Varese and I'm breathlessly awaiting their response. If everyone's REAL nice to me I might post it here.

    Thanks, all.

One of my top favs by him also. I like all those animal cues for the various giant creatures. Great score. I have the LPs and the CD on it.

    Other favs by him:

Psycho-I have so many versions of this one. I like most of them too.

Its Alive. I really like this.

    Obsession-great score.

Battle of Neretva-along with that one cue he used in Cape Fear and in Torn Curtain. Great score. I really like the battle music in this.

Three Worlds of Gulliver another one I really like.

    Day the Earth Stood Still

    and some others.

Didn't John Morgan mention that he wanted to re-record this score?

Never heard this one. What's it like? Is it available.

I just got Debney's 7th Voyage of Sinbad, and I like it! The only Herrmann I had prior was the Silva 2 disc, the Gerhardt, and the four various CDs that Bernard Herrmann conducted of his music for Decca.

That Neretva score is outstanding. Its about the big battle fought in Yugoslavia in WW II. Really dumb film made overseas with Yul Brynner and others. The music is great though. It has a great "partisan" theme, main title is fantastic and the battle music is excellent with heavy percussion. One of my favs by him. The movie came out in 1969 or 70. The Lp and Cd are both long out of print. Check with SAE. They may have a copy.

That new 7th voyage recording is very good. I have several different versions of it and I like them all. Another of my favs on him. Also, I like those London CDs and lps too a lot. The Psycho re-recording was excellent too with that one extra cue near the end that is so good.
