Dante, are you telepathic or something ?
- For about three weeks I've been meaning to write here a post about the surprisingly marvelous TOM & JERRY classics produced by Fred Quimby - (and most directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera in those days when these men had somewhat more "class" than they ended up having with the clumsy cartoons like SCOOBY-DOO and THE FLINTSTONES).I have been admiring these classic TOM & JERRY cartoons on the European Cartoon Network for some time now and in addition to the surprisingly good stories, GORGEOUS animation, and even lovable & humane characteristics in both Tom & Jerry, the most astounding thing has been to discover how much marvelous music Scott Bradley has composed for these classics - not just the ordinary "chase, whack 'n' roll" music, but really catchy melodies and beautiful orchestrations and performances. The "Tom & Jerry" kind of music has a reputation of being somewhat "secondary" music, but really, Scott Bradley's vast musical canvas on these TOM & JERRY classics really rises to the same level of excellence as the Disney classic cartoons. Warmly recommended for anybody who doubts this kind of music.
Watching these cartoons I have also noticed how BAD the later Chuck Jones productions of TOM & JERRY are compared to these older, classic ones - there is no warmth in Jones' treatment of the characters and the animation really sucks. It's really somewhat amazing to say that the old classics of TOM & JERRY are NOT about chases and cartoon violence - most of them have amazing amount of warmth and sincere fun.
Besides, I just looooove this little yellow duck character who appears in many of these old TOM & JERRY classics - he's so cute
(and speaks like a baby Donald Duck).I'd certainly would like to have all this wonderful music by Scott Bradley released on CD.
