If you were to choose three of the following scores, which would you buy?The Untouchables (Morricone), Tombstone (Broughton), Cutthroat Island (Debney), Unearthed (E.S. Posthumus), Home Alone (Williams), Les Miserables (Poledouris), The Rocketeer (Horner)
I've already had some input on this, but I'm interested in what you think (and someone recommended that I post this to get more opinions

1) Unearthed- simply because I hear that there is nothing quite like it around.
2) Cutthroat Island- this is one of the scores that got me into film music.
3) Home Alone- One of those cd's where you could be playing it in 90 degree wether and it wil feel like Christmas in your ears

Unearthed - because of Variety, of Fun and because it's the most Unique album out of the batch.
Tombstone - Cause it's really good
Cutthroat - Cause it's loud and fun
and splurge for
The Untouchables - Cause IT's GOOD and it's Morricone.I'm not a Williams fan so I woulnd't pick Home Alone. But it's a good listen anyway.
Pick up the Rocketeer because it's one of those rare time when Horner was actually being original for a bit.
I like Les Mis alot but it's so low and dramatic and thick with bass that you can't really listen to it at any time.posted 07-17-2002 12:36 AM PT (US)

Cutthroat Island - a bit overkill, but still very good, and the only pirate score in years.Les Miserables - wonderful silent Poledouris score. Took me soom getting used to, but it's very nice after that.
The Untouchables - cool Morricone score, nice triumphant fanfare, some good jazzy pieces.
I'd have picked Home Alone instead of the Morricone, but it might be better to get that in October or so than right in the middle of summer.

Funny, I have every one except Les Miserables. I guess I should pick that one by default, but I won't
.Let's see, if I had to pick only three...
1. Unearthed - a definite pick.
2. Cutthroat Island
3. The RocketeerBradley

The Untouchables -- the second best Morricone score (behind The Mission). Love "On the Rooftops."Home Alone -- as Ramen said, it would be like Christmas in July!
The Rocketeer -- it's just fun

Hmm...it appears that Cutthroat Island is one of the favorites of the choices. It sounds like a fun score. I'm still not sure which ones I would buy so please feel free to write your choices (it would be nice if you could write why you chose them, too
).ThanksAce

I would suggest:TOMBSTONE - powerful Western score, bristling action cues.
THE ROCKETEER - seminal Horner score, great main theme, invigorating action
LES MISERABLES - hard to go wrong with Poledouris, sweeping themes, long suites give concert feelposted 07-17-2002 09:24 AM PT (US)

Kyle, I'll have to go along with Frank's suggestions. You will never go wrong with Bruce Broughton, and Tombstone is a magnificent score. The Rocketeer is great, but it could be swapped out for Cutthroat. That's a great one as well. And Les Miserables beats out the Untouchables in my book any day. There you have it.

Cutthroat Island...big and funThe Untouchables...I love the quiet theme (nice description, eh?)
The Rocketeer...Horner in top form (Speaking of that...I've got to go listen to this one, it's been too long.)
Tombstone would be my fourth choice...

LOL. I've seen all except The Rocketeer and Cutthroat Island. I've been meaning to see The Rocketeer, though. As for the three that I would pick, I am leaning toward Cutthroat Island and Les Miserables. It appears that Home Alone is not a summer favorite, so I'm not as excited about it. The third one would probably be Rocketeer or Unearthed.
At this point, it's still hard to say. Your opinions have helped so far. Thanks, everyone.Ace

1. The Rocketeer is Horner's best score in my book. It's my favorite Horner score and one of my top 20 faves.2. I'm one of the few who HATES CutThroat Island. It's loud and dull. Get some Korngold like Captain Blood- that's the REAL THING by a REAL COMPOSER.
3. Buy all scores with "BROUGHTON" printed on the front cover.
4. Untouchables is ok, Les Miserables is sappy and boring, Home Alone is classic Williams, and Unearthed is a great listen.

UNTOUCHABLES?....wicked Morricone score that's well worth having!Nothing 'sappy' about Poledouris's LES MISERABLES, wonderful 'deep' score by our main man that doesn't touch on anything remotely sacharine or 'sappy', very good score that takes more than one listen to really get into!
NP : Le Train - Philippe Sarde....a film I've never seen, but boy, what a frigging great score this is! (full score is 18 minutes of excellence)

Timmer--You are so right about Le Train, a great score by Sarde.I don't know the Postumus score so I'd have to say:
Untouchables & Cutthroat Island for sure. The Untouchables has one of the finest End Titles there is and the rest of it ain't bad either. Cutthroat Island may be watered down Korngold but Debney still did a great job with this.
I'd pick a third, but all the rest kind of blend together at the same level, these two are in another league.
