I am watching UNBREAKABLE right now, and I think the movie is pretty tense and damn good. I noticed that James Newton Howard is using a rather "quiet score" for the movie.
You know, dense strings, quiet piano, not much noisyness. Besides JNH´s THE SIXTH SENSE do you know any more quiet scores?

    Best to you

    Philipp

np: uNbrEakAblE (james newton howard, dvd)

I have two that I've been playing at bedtime each night recently....

Goldenthal's GOLDEN GATE is great for this, although you may have to program out a couple jazz tracks, if you want the whole thing to stay pianissimo....

Newman's GREEN MILE....about 75mins. of bliss, but again, this has at least one action cue you'll need to skip, along with a couple other things perhaps....but the soft sections are gorgeous, and falling asleep to the end title is an ethereal experience.
Thomas Newman has a few good, quiet albums in fact....one could probably make up a nice 'Sleepytime' compilation from them...

    Hmmmm...that gives me an idea!

On a tangent, if you want to fall asleep in the best way possible, to really hypnotize and calm yourself, listen to Philip Glass' KOYAANISQATSI with headphones on.

    Incredible experience. Works everytime.

I wouldn't call Pruit Igoe quiet. In fact, I consider it one of the greatest action tracks I've heard.

Nice one Maxx... Here are a few (in my opinion):
The Thin Red Line is fairly quiet (aside from Journey of course)

Basic Instinct - Goldsmith's very cool "sexy" score

Body Heat - John Barry's slow, and quiet
    romantic score, very subtle

Anything by John Barry actually (Dances with Wolves, Enigma, My Life, etc. etc.

Bladerunner - I have always found "Bladerunner Blues" very soothing,Vangelis is mainly quiet.

Coma - A very cool suspensful and mainly quiet Goldsmith score

The Game - I love listening this score alone at night, it is very suspenseful, and the orchestra is super quiet, hard to beleive that Shore went from this score to LOTR.

Hannibal - Zimmer's subtle score is very smooth, and an easy listen (although there is some dialogue and sfx onsome tracks). I studied to this music last semester, very cool.

Actually, I kind of think Hearts In Atlantis was a somewhat quiet score. Very beautiful.

I always thought these had very good "quiet" parts, very relaxing:

    Rudy- Jerry Goldsmith
    Meet Joe Black- Thomas Newman
How to Make An American Quilt- Thomas Newman
(Actually almost all Thomas Newman scores are good bets for quiet parts)
    White Squall- Jeff Rona/Hans Zimmer
    Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon- Tan Dun

A score I find most quiet and relaxing is John William's STANLEY AND IRIS. Whenever the world gets a little too crazy and I'm totally stressed, I pop it in and it really is quite beautiful, soft and soothing. Try it at home! Best Regards, piero
