I missed this in the cinemas due to exams, but I finally saw it yesterday on DVD.With regard to the film, I enjoyed it. My expectations were high, and they were very nearly met. While maybe not involving me emotionally, the film it top-notch in the technical department. Case in point is Zimmer's score.
I had heard the score before the film, and due to comments posted here I approached it knowing that I had to see the film to fully appreciate it. I quite liked it on CD, but in the film it is great.
The first few minutes were particularly striking. The track 'Hunger' fits like a glove, and the backstory manages to set the scene superbly.
The track that 'hurt' most on CD was 'Barra Barra' - but it's great on screen, as are all the tracks.
Minstrel boy was also very effective at the end.
Does anyone know which track it is when the helicopters are over the beach just after 'Irene' commences? Is it 'Still'?
:: My only minor gripes are:
Although Gortoz a Ran does occupy a key part in the film, i was hoping for a more fleshed out performance, as found on the CD.
There were many great renditions of the main 'heroic' theme that aren't on the CD, especially the drum and horn version as the Humbys march through the streets.
And if I'm not mistaken the theme as it is heard on CD ('Leave No Man Behind') doesn't make a full appearance in the film.
