I just bought this music, heard a little bit of it in the store, and was blown away. Pure Goldenthal, just fantastic. Of course, haven´t heard all of it yet, but it just sounds amazing.Care to comment, buddies?
Greetings

I care to comment. It's great. And all my thanks to Varèse Sarabande for releasing it.
It's great Goldenthal music, away from the big screen, and onto the live stage. Offers a very interesting listen.
But gets boring. 70 minutes is too long for a piece like this. After a while, it becomes tiresome.
Somehow it never quite lifts itself up from it's opening. It stays rather monotone throughout, with no real differences in mood and expression, as one would find in let's say Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, or Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballets.posted 06-27-2002 05:35 AM PT (US)

There's not much thematic material, but some of the music is just so perverse with its squealing woodwinds and growling brass that, whether you like it or not, it's hard to not be stunned by.posted 06-27-2002 09:36 AM PT (US)

Gotta agree with Sean here! I love all 70 minutes of Goldenthal! Bring on more! By the way, I wonder whatever happened to that Grendel opera he was working on years ago?
