Oh, um, Broken Arrow. In my defence, the CD has two redeeming features: the rather cool guitar theme, & the fact that it only cost me Ģ1.49. But remembering the film, I don't think I can really be bothered with most of the score.

And I was going to buy Bowie's Hunky Dory instead...

I haven't even listened to it yet, & I'm inclined to agree with you. Oh, well. Maybe I'll go & get Hunky tomorrow instead.

Yeah, it's called the "let anyone rate things" virus. Very distructive, and very prevalent on most websites that allow user participation from "outsiders."

I wouldn't call Legend a 5 star score (ok, maybe 4), but 2.75 is a bit too harsh... even for me.

Wait, I'm not sure what you're saying...

To go back to what I was implying...those who go by the name "men" here complaining of illness over a particular composer...?

Oh, blimey. I thought getting it was perhaps a minor lapse in judgement. I was wrong, it was a pretty big lapse in taste. Even if I didn't feel ill before, I certainly did after I hit the "play" button. Oh dear. Oh deary dear. It was far worse than I had remembered it seeming in the film. As so often happens with Zimmer, he can come up with a strong idea: the main Broken Arrow theme is pretty good; but then he totally messes it up with what he does with it. The presentation is absolutely horrible, with the oh-so-dramatic big synth crashes. Am I the only one who thinks that this sounds laughable, & really cheesy & dated already? I mean, this is only - what - 6 years after it was written? There's something very wrong there somewhere.
And the guitar motif, which sounded quite cool in the film, just seems a complete non-happening on disc. It seems to be trying very hard to be a modern techno version of the spaghetti Western style, but even if the ingredients are about right, & the theme & playing farily good, the way in which Zimmer mixes it up just kills it off. The score does absolutely nothing for me at all, except to make me reach for the "stop" button.
Worse, I then decided to take it to another shop to see if I could get part-exchange, but I took it to pretty much every single second-hand CD shop in Edinburgh, & not one of them was even remotely interested in it, not even for 50p. I think Ebay beckons.

Actually, I do like Zimmer's BROKEN ARROW.

don't worry you can always dump it at Wherehouse for $3 or so, unless they have too many Zimmer cd's already (especially Gladiator.)

    Damn straight.

As for Wherehouse, well I think that going all the way over to the states is a bit too much to get rid of a CD.

For the record, I'm not ashamed of liking Zimmer's music. Because I don't like it. Which is why I think I must have been ill to have bought the disc in the first place. See?

But if you do like his music, then that's fine, more power to you. If you can get something worthwhile out of it then I'm glad for you, you go for it. I'm pretty sure there's stuff I listen to & love that you'd hate. Each to his own & all that.

NP not a diddly little thing.
