Hmm...quite nice...but not nearly as good as the trailers for the first movie.

Marian,
You've got a point there...but do you think it could be because everyone was anticipating the first one and didn't know what to expect as far as the visual effects and style?

But it seems to me that the new trailer doesn't tease as well as the old ones did. You don't get to see that much. The first time around, eveyr glimpse of a character was already exciting, now we know them. And still, there doesn't seem to be a lot about the story in the new trailer, either. I can hardly remember the book, and the trailer didn't make me remember anymore than before.
Still, I'd be really surprised if the film is NOT good.

You know (and Quill will probably pop in here to rag on me), I haven't seen the first one, and don't plan on seeing the second one.Sorry, but I guess I'm not big on this series. Maybe I've actually grown up.

Kevin, how can you even say you're not a fan if you haven't given any facet of the franchise a chance? See the first film and then tell me you're not a fan. It's like me saying "Uhhh... This Star Wars and Star Trek stuff is a bunch of hooey. I mean, I haven't ever seen any of the films or shows, but it's just not really my thing." Give it a chance, Kev. If ya find you're not digging the movie, then decline from it... but don't knock it until you've tried it.

Same with Potter never cared for it until I heard Williams was going to score the movie. After reading the first page of the first book, I knew I was going to read the rest, too.

If you haven't read the books then do that first. A serious reader can finish the first three in three days and book four might take a day or two.The books have a vision, that vision was translated very well to the screen.
I can't wait for "CoS"

Well Kevin...I actually agree with you on this one. But I would still suggest seeing them, as far as flights of fancy goes you can do much worse!I did watch Potter again, and while it is an entertaining film, in the end it was merely a stringing together of several, nearly independent scenes. I suppose Columbus was attempting to be too true to the source material. In a way, "Stone" suffers from the same problems as "Phantom Menace" as they both tried to do too much.
I've said before that I am not a big fan of the books--I tried desperately to engross myself in them, but came up short. But that won't keep me away--I'm a fan of escapist film, and in the very least the first Pooter installment succeeded in that.

Thanks a bunch, Brian, that was my first full taste.I still would like to have seen more of Branagh in character, but this was a nice tease I guess. It does seem a little underwhelming compared to the first film's trailers, but I think Marian and Jennie have hit the nail on the head as to the reasons. I'm certainly not looking forward to it any less than I already was.

I just watched the trailer. Honestly? I think it looks great. I'm just as excited, if not more so than the first. The first film (and book) spend a lot of time establishing the Harry Potter mythos, getting to know the characters, the world, etc... and yes, while there was a solid story, I feel that there's a stronger, more coherent film in Chamber of Secrets. So far, it looks to be a fun-filled, well-executed endeavor. Can't wait!Jeron

Which reminds me, over at the JWFan board, a similar thread has developed into a thread about casting predictions, or rather casting wishes, for the next films.
I'd vote for Miranda Richardson as Rita Skeeter, her voice is exactly how I imagined her. Also, somebody else mentioned Anjelica Huston as Madame Maxime. I'd never thought of her, but she also perfeclty fits the image I had of her when reading the book.
Any more?

I had always had my heart set on Malcolm McDowell for Alastor Moody, and Hugh Laurie for Remus Lupin. And David Warner has to show up somewhere along the way, though I don't have a specific part for him. (He was actually my mind's first Ollivander, but obviously that part has been filled.)Kirk

Considering he IS British, I really hope he gets the part.

I guess all those years living in a car instilled her with a sense of heritage, and anti-American sentiment. Ironic, then, that Chris Columbus isn't British.... nor are a lot of the crew.... but the cast! Oh my.
