Well, just yesterday I picked up the Jurassic Park DVD box set and have been skimming through it. I was curious to know what the opinions here were on both the films themselves and Williams'/Davis' scores. It seems that most agree that LOST WORLD is a sub par film, but people split on the album. The first JP is still a seminal film and score for me, one of those lasting theatrical memories we all have. It was my junior year in college, 1993, when I saw it. That summer was a great one and I remember seeing the film 3 times in the theater! LOST WORLD as a film is an empty exercise, but I still find the score compelling. And I have only seen JPIII once in the theaters and not since, so I need to refresh my memory on its quality. Davis' score is fun, if a little too frenetic at times. So, how would you guys rank the films and the albums?

I always found the original film very good, though every time I see it I like it less. There are too many gratituous changes from the book, a lot of dumbing down. The score is fantastic, and I love how it combines with the visuals (the weird strings for the torn electrical fence wires, for example).Lost World is a dumb movie. Still a great score though, I don't see anything wrong with that.
#3 is a good score as well, but I've never seen the film, so I can't comment anymore.

You know? It's very interesting because I think Jurassic Park was perhaps the last big blockbuster before the internet era.

Agreed, Hector, I think that's why I have such fond memories of seeing it in the theaters. It was a great blockbuster that played well with all age groups without pandering. I was completely happy with it. Afterwards, Spielberg took a four year vacation and in his absence the summer film crop went to hell in a handbasket.

And Schindler's List came as a complete surprise to me. The first time I heard of it was a couple of weeks when they aired something of it on Fox, I thought that was an old Spielberg film. Very interesting period. Also Williams took an almost two year vacation, at least to me that I didn't know what was happening since there was no way I could get info on what Williams might be doing, of course this is when he wrote his cello concerto among other stuff. I remember when I saw the poster of Sabrina and it said "Music by John Williams" nd I went "Finally!", hehehe.
