    Hi folks,

as I was hearing RUDY just now, I was wondering which movie had the most orchestra noise, you know like chairs cracking, cellulars suddenly ringing, etc. For instance, in one track from Danny Elfmanīs BATMAN, you can hear the alarm of one playerīs watch go on.

    Greetings

    Philipp

np: Rudy (Jerry Goldsmith) - which comes close to the title I think

It is in track 18, at around 2: 24 I think, but I have to listen to it again.

13th Warrior has some orchestra noise toward the beginning. Nothing major. But some slight crackles and pops which appear to be from people moving around their instruments, chairs or sheet music.

Around 3:35-3:39 in "The Treatment" from TOTAL RECALL, you can hear some shuffling. I am guessing it was musicians moving from instrument to instrument to get read to play again. There was a brief silence before the music started back up.

Not that anything like this bothers me.

Yeah, that Recall thing was a horrible mistake, using a different take. The original album didn't have the mistakes in "The Treatment."

    Wanna hear something REALLY scary?

If you listen to the terrific Silva CD Scanners/The Brood/Dead Ringers,go to the suite from The Brood....

at 11:02 if you listen carefully(depending on how loud your 'phones are) you will hear a female voice say
    "Steve!"

Came across this odd fact whilst listening to the CD very late at night on
headphones a few years ago....if you listen
The name does not refer to any character in the film...must have been one of
the female string players that says it, but why? Another player miss his cue?

    Ciao,
    Sean

Just remembered my other 'favorite' noise on an album....during the first minute or so of 'Flying Over Africa' on Barry's OUT OF AFRICA, it sounds like someone drops their instrument and coughs.

Can't remember the specifics, but it's pretty disruptive....

A siren can be heard faintly at one point on Elmer Bernstein's LP of MEN IN WAR. An ambulance or fire truck must have driven by. I figure they had one session to do the album, and did not have time for a re-take.

Tom, this might be one you are familiar with, but isn't there some disruption on Tiomkin's RHAPSODY OF STEEL?

Sorry Sean, I don't recall, but my recollections are getting worse and worse. I do have an LP of Rhapsody of Steel, but I can't play LPs right now. I disconnected my turntable to set it up in another area, and there are a few things that have to happen before I get it set up again (and do some LP transfers).

Isn't Alien very "physical-sounding"? I think it is. Wonder how much more of that we'd hear on a decently remastered, less hissy release.

But generally, I like those sounds. Makes the music more natural. You can occasionally hear turning pages on many classical albums, too.

Want noise? Try Inchon! If I remember correctly, The Challenge also had a noisy orchestra.

There is also a noticable click of something at around 1:20 in the Nessun Dorma track on the Sum of all Fears disc.

In Armageddon, Harry Sees Dad (AKA Leaving) has some background noise in it. Same with Disarming The Nuke on the complete score. Lots of MV scores have back ground noise.

Isn't the classic the very beginning to the score to "Twister" where you can clearly hear the conductor speak to the orchestra prior to the first notes sounding!

Yep, that was a mistake on TWISTER, John....some people thought it was similar to how Thomas Newman sometimes opens his albums with noise(Threesome,Unstrung Heroes,Up Close & Personal), but the word is someone rolled tape just a tad early....or something along those lines....

Hans Zimmer's score for The Thin Red Line in "the Coral Atoll" has someone's watch alarm beep at 5:02 into the track.

I also remember A New Hope having a lot chairs creaking and pages being turned, damn they mic-ed that score close!

Yeah, Unfaithful has some weird **** going on, especially in track 11. I thought it might have been a mastering error, but it could well be orchestra noise.

Actually, Sean, no it isn't. I asked Mark Mancina about that and he said it was quite deliberate and intentional.

Jaws is quite awful. If you listen on track 11 I think it is you can hear some chairs rumble around quite loudly.

Another Thin Red Line noise, in The Village, about 4:28 into it you can hear what sounds like a chair moving.

When i read the post topic i thought this meant scores that were crap; orchestra noise- and i was going to say Rosenman's Prophecy, but instead i offer up:

    Star trek: first contact
"Retreat" alternate- You can hear in one part the players scrambling with their instruments- even the xylaphone guy, or what ever sounding instrument that was, drop him things on the keys and pick them up.
Or at least that is what it sounds like.
And of couse there is the annoying "1m1" :-)

Doesn't one of the LSO players sneeze near the end of the Asteroid Field from TESB?

You can hear a clicking sound during Indy's Very First Adventure from the Last Crusade.

The original soundtrack to Gojira (1954) by Akira Ifukube has one cue where it sounds like the entire orchestra is moving, picking up instruments, moving chairs, flipping pages etc.

    Oh yeah. ST:8 again-
"The Pheonix" - They stop, flip their pages, prepare their instruments and begin again. Takes about 3 seconds.

Would this fit under this topic? I always am amazed by the fact that you can hear a lot of the brass and woodwind players take really deep breaths as they're playing.

One instance: Return of the Jedi. Every time Jabba's theme is played, the tuba player is heard taking some heavy breaths.

Evidence that the microphones are really close.

ET...on the original release of the soundtrack (I'm not sure if later remasterings have it):

Towards the end of "Adventure no Earth" just as Elliot steps up to say his goodbye to ET...in the brief pause before the big strings begin someone knocks their music off its stand: clunk...plop.
