I didn't think that anyone would remember Randy today. They sure didn't remember James Newton Howard yesterday. BTW, happy belated birthday, Jimbo. Here's to 51 more.

His birthday is today! Cool! Happy B-Day Randy. Gettysburg is my favorite movie of all time and partly due to randy's score. I can't wait for Gods and Generals!

My goodness! Another Gettysburg and to-be Gods and Generals fan! Most of the "scores to be anticipated" lists all are missing Gods and Generals- I'm astounded that there's not alot of anticipation out there- if there is, I've been missing it! Happy birthday, Randy! Happy birthday to you too James! And all you other composers I'm likely not mentioning!

Hey Jared, what about possible to-be Last Full Measure fans? Assuming GAG does well, I'm already anticipating this one! I won't get my hopes up too high, though.

In celebration, I will play an orchestral arrangement of "I Can't Drive 55," downgraded for all-synths.Shaun

ROFL! Shaun, this is hilarious! Anyway, my feelings on Edelman: can write excellent themes (DRAGONHEART), but writes some piss poor scores to surround those themes. Hey Randy, it's called an ORCHESTRA. Gettysburg would be 100x better if you hadn't gone off and augmented everything with synths.

Shaun, LOL, that made my morning!
I don`t know about the themes either, very poor chord progressions with nothing at all going on behind them. His action cues always use that really annoying whiny synth in the background, which I think is meant to be `swirling strings` or something. I remember reading an interview with him once where he went on about using an orchestra with all his scores augmented by synths. Well, where the **** does that orchestra go to when the score is mixed?
And as for his comdey scores: Jesus Christ....But as for JNH; at least he`s someone that can compose something more than just whatever an eight year old kid could do with a relic keyboard from the 80`s

Would you be so chipper if people were bad-mouthing you behind your back around your birthday?
Besides, Edelman has written a number of good scores:
Down Periscope (this really deserves a release)
Billy Madison (ditto)
Ghostbusters 2
The Mask
Feds
The Chipmunk Adventure
The Last of the Mohicans (his contributions shouldn't be compared to Trevor Jones', as they stand pretty well on their own)posted 06-12-2002 04:56 AM PT (US)

Sorry, SDB, but I`ll have to disagree with you on all of those scores.
The best material in Down Periscope was by Mark McKenzie (possibly all the non-synth bits).
His contribution to LOTM is laughable filler musci consisting of mostly droning.Well, I`m not too bothered about giving him some grief on his birthday, after all, he`s had me in **** -fits everytime I hear his `music` underwhelming a potentially good.
film. And God help him, he better come up with something half-decent for XXX, or I`ll be rooting for more songs in the film!

I don't write really bad music that makes people feel "not-so-fresh" while listening to it, now do I?He ruined NBC Sports, also. I don't think anyone's mentioned those frighteningly bad pieces (I REALLY miss NBC's old baseball music). Ouch.
