Does anyone have the DVD-A of John William's 'A.I.'? I have a strong inclination to hold out on the CD purchase and by the DVD-A. Although I don't have the equipment to play the high-def track, I can play the Dolby Digital mix included on all Warner-issued DVD-A discs. Also, browsing an Australian DVD-A site, Lord of the Rings score is due to be issued on DVD-A in September....but I doubt it will be an expanded release.

Well if one is going to nitpick, the movie starts with the title 'The Lord of the Rings' and then cuts to 'The Fellowship of the Ring' but yes, I am referring to Shore's score.

I was nitpicking because it wasn't clear to which score you were referring.
Personally, I'd like to see DVD-As of both scores.NP: Mahler: Symphony #5 (Chicago SO, Solti)

I have both A.I. versions and the DVD-A does sound much better but there is still some problems with it. You can't fast forward thru cues and you need your TV on to see what the hell you are doing. The sound still sounds a little "muddy" as well.

I've thought about the Academy promo as well, but the prices on Ebay are a little on the ridiculous side.
As an aside, does ANYONE like Williams' other little assignment for 2001 - Harry Potter? In almost every movie review I have read, they go out of their way to mention John Williams' overcranked, overwhelming and generally unwelcome score. For me the score was as close to perfect as you can get - nothing says 'Harry Potter' to me like the few notes of Harry's theme, and I found the music to be as worthy and appropriate to the action as the score to Superman.
Just my two bits.

I just saw Harry Potter and must say that I found the score quite superb in context of the film. I wasn't so impressed with the album when it came out (in all fairness to it, I was quite enthralled with Lord of the Rings, which came out at about the same time), but the score as it appears in the film is fantastic...I re-approached the album, and found that while I certainly understood more of what was going on musically after having seen the film, I think that the first part of it suffers from "John Williams Producer-itis," and is weaker than the last portion (the first half is the more magic-oriented music, while the second is more action-oriented. I am quite happy with the music in the film, but I think that the album doesn't present it quite as well as it could).
I actually liked Harry Potter's score a hell of a lot more than Attack of the Clones.

Potter? That's one of his best! And as far as I am concerned, as an album it's a lot better than most of Williams' other recent self-produced score albums. Though I still miss a lot of stuff from the film.
