I ran across this news today when scanning a Transformers message board, from http://www.screenmusic.com/index.htm:

BE ON THE LOOKOUT: Watch for the first releases this summer for ScreenMusic Records, including - Vintage Animation Sountrack releases of GI Joe, Transformers, Inhumanoids, My Little Pony and more great animation collector's soundtracks - digitally remixed and remastered from the original music masters.

I'm mainly just interested in scores from the old Marvel animated series like TF, Spiderman, GI Joe and such, but animated score releases of any kind are welcome! I just hope they include the bulk of the library cues from the TF series.

I think the critical clarification here would be--are these the television scores, or are they remastered versions of the theme songs?

Good point, I didn't consider that. I would be quite disappointed if they're just talking themes here. From other comments on that specific TF message board, from a guy who actually emailed Rob Walsh (composed on TF and GI JOE), it seems that will include library score cues. I gotta find the thread again and I'll post it here for more info.

I emailed ScreenMusic last night, and got this reply this morning:

    quote:

These upcoming releases will include several volumes of original GI Joe, Transformers, Defenders of the Earth, Dungeons and Dragons, Muppet Babies, My little Pony, etc etc scores, sound effects, dialogue, pictures, artwork - check with us in 3 months for more accurate information.

    Only three months to go...

Thanks, Dinko, for the follow-up! Several volumes will help to give each series its due, though are they going to include sound effects and images all on the CD? I guess it can be done, as long as the effects are not mixed in with the score cues.
Hey, I'm surprised Kimiakane hasn't responded yet - isn't she usually clamouring for animation scores?

And here I am now, Frank! I had to finish Joel and Mike's laundry before they would let me get on the computer (thank God that Crow, Tom & Gypsy don't wear clothes, eh?)

This is beyond exciting news for me!!! I only hope and pray that they market these CDs in the right areas to get maximum sales out of them. This way they will continue to pursue other cartoon series and eventually get out all the scores we've waited for (which in my case, is just about everything). Maybe if sales are strong enough, other CD publishers will jump on the ship too and follow in suit.

I can't say I'm too interested in these soundtracks having sound effects and dialogue though. If I wanted those, I could just record the soundtracks directly off my videotapes and get the same result!

Great news! Now if only Vault Disney would get off their can and authorize "Duck Tales," "Rescue Rangers," and other Disney classic TV scores!

Here's a short list of cartoon scores that I'd love to see released:

Animaniacs (Richard Stone, Steve Bernstein, Julie Bernstein, Carl Johnson)

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes and Inspector Gadget (Haim Saban and Shuki Levy)

Batman: TAS and Superman: TAS (Shirley Walker, Kris Carter, Lolita Ritmanis, Harvey R. Cohen, Michael McCuistion, etc.)

    Clerks: TAS (James L. Venable)

Dexter's Laboratory (Thomas Chase and Steve Rucker)

Digimon (Udi Harpaz, Amotz Plessner, Deddy Tzur, Jeremy Sweet, Shuki Levy, Kussa Mahchi)

Doug (Dan Sawyer and Fred Newman)

    Eek!stravaganza (Nathan Wang)

Extreme Ghostbusters, Jumanji and Men in Black (Jim Latham)

    Futurama (Christopher Tyng)

Garfield & Friends (Ed Bogas and Desiree Goyette)

    Invader Zim (Kevin Manthei)

    ReBoot (Robert Buckley)

Recess and Rugrats (Denis M. Hannigan)

    Ren & Stimpy (APM Library)

    The Weekenders (Roger Neill)

To have music from even one of these shows on CD would make me so very happy.
