I've had LEGEND on CD for years and it's been an entertaining puzzle to try to imagine how it worked in the film.

Now we know. It's remarkable how closely tailored the score is to the film. The whole film jumps to life in a way it never did before (though it will probably never be a great movie). The added bits really help, too. The only thing I would have added is Jerry's score isolated, but I hear he opposes that generally.

    What do you think?

I just finished watching my DVD.

I can't add to what Ed said. I'm speechless.

Jerry only hates it when he isn't involved with commentary or when it is used as it was on that Mummy DVD where the whole score runs continuous over a menu screen.

Too bad he couldn't have done a commentary on the film. Probably too sore an issue for him still.

We should just be thankful this thing happened at all. I have it on good authority that this whole project was touch and go for some time. Thus the delayed release of about a year.

I hear Jerry nixed score-only tracks on both LEGEND and THE OMEN. He was really upset about THE MUMMY.

As mentioned above, had he provided commentary (ala HOLLOW MAN), he probably wouldn't have minded as much.

There was an iso score on THE OMEN SE LaserDisc.... and I don't recall him complaining back then.....

I think he did, Dan, which is why there is no iso score on the OMEN DVD despite his involvement with the supplements. The last time I spoke with a Fox video rep they cited Jerry's objection as the reason the score wasn' t there. LEGEND was a similar situation, though the heartbreaking way his score was treated may also have been an influence.

    Ed,

What I meant was, if he complained vocally about THE OMEN laserdisc, then you would think that he wouldn't have allowed there to be an iso score of THE MUMMY, or RUDY, etc.... let alone the OMEN DVD.

I dunno about Rudy... He was ENORMOUSLY proud of that score and he probably had no objections to the score being isolated, so people could appreciate it as well!

I just finished watching the restored version just now. Quite a remarkable difference.

I wonder if Jerry wrote anything for the kitchen fight sequence and it was cut or if Ridley just fell in love with that temp track of "Psycho II" and "???"?

I was surprised at how some music seemed dubbed rather low at times where I thought it would stand out more. I guess that comes from having so many years of imagining it without the visuals and other sound effects to get in the way.

It'd be interesting to get Jerry's reaction to the DVD restoration.

The most startling thing in the new LEGEND DVD for me so far:

Mia Sara's use of the word "gobsmacked" to describe her first reaction to the forest set.

    "...Now that's a word I haven't heard in a long time...a long time...."

I'd consider it, but I don't plan on attending. I did attend one of these several years ago when I had more disposible income. The price tag these days is too high for me for what little I got out of it.

While I know I will be shredded for saying this...I was unimpressed with the extended version. While it does flesh the film out, and all of the additional material is solid, I felt the pacing and editing was flat. Also, while I love Jerry's score on disc it is not used well in the film.

Now I'm not saying that I prefer Tangerine Dream...far from it...but I think the use of it in the film is better. Many scenes from the original seemed to have more punch. In the end I'm torn, because this extended cut does improve the story at the expense of flow...hmmmm...maybe I need to watch them again.

On the plus side...the DVD comes with both versions so I really can't complain.
