OK, I saw the film for the first time this weekend. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I enjoyed the score very much. One cue stood out the most to me, and that was when Malcom X gets shot. Is it availible on either of the albums or a promo or anything? I found to be so subtly emotional and I HAVE to have it.

I agree. I actually enjoyed ALI a lot and just saw it two weeks ago, i was busy and didn't get a chance to see it in a theater, but I found a lot in it most people missed but whatever...

As far as the music - and that cue in particular - agreed. Awesome, memorable, totally great cue I must listen to about twice a week. That one is available on the "gold cover" 2nd soundtrack, I forget which track. Maybe nine I think. The other fave part musically that I love is the scene between Ali and his wife in the African suite/hotel room, that cue is the only score cut on Soundtrack One if you care. But the one you want - the one playing during Malcolm's shooting - is on S-track 2, which contains a few songs, but mostly Lisa Gerrard/Pieter Bourke score and well worth owning, IMHO.

While we're on the subject of this film's music - if there's any reason I like the film a lot it's during the first fight when the tide turns and Ali begins to win. The use of music and sound in this fight is, IMHO, why Michael Mann is a borderline genius. He uses one of Moby's songs, slowed down by like 100, from PLAY and just a snippet of it to convey a psychological POV - and much of this film is conveyed through sound and POV and music, something I'm sorry a lot of people seemed to either miss or just not care about - but I have since watched that part in ALI about ten times just for that piece of music/that beat in the fight. Amazing. OK, I've spouted off enough for the moment. Peace.

I thought the Ali II album was pretty dire.

MillsSomerset, what cue specifically is it? I haven't seen the film, but would be interested in hearing what piece you are talking about so I can give it another run.

That would be cue numero 7 on ALI 2, "Adagio" which like I say lately has vied for more CD-time than just about anything except "Gortoz A Ran - J'Attends" (track 11) from BLACKHAWK DOWN and "See The Sun" (whatever the last track number is, I burned this piece I don't have the actual album) from ALI. These three are in heavy rotation for me of late.

P.S. - "Adagio" off of ALI II is the "Malcolm X" cue; "See the Sun" off ALI s-track one is the "African bungalow/Ali and his wife" cue I was talkin' 'bout. Peace.

Do you have any idea what that music is then?? u refered to moby's play album but I cannot find it. Is it a privately done remix especially for the movie? I am a big fan of this specific piece of music in the film, so inspirational
