What are some of the longest action cues? And I don't mean just in terms of track length, but I mean the longest amount of time the music remains a the same volume and tempo or only gets faster.

Try The Rock: tracks 2, 6, and 8. Great action cues. My personal favorite is track 6 - a good 14+ mins. of pure action.

I can think of a few....

1SQ from Crimson Tide, at 18+ minutes
The entire end of ID4, because the music was continuous in the film, regardless of how it was divided on the boot.
The same goes for Hook.

the greatest action cue of all time is the Hoth ice battle music in ESB, clocking jn at 15 minutes.

You know what's sad?

Guys remember I wasn't talking about in terms of track lenghth, the track The Chase from Peacemaker maybe 17 min long but it doesn't maintain the same level of intensity throughout.

Heres an example, you have the Power from Dark City, the action starts, but doesn't slow down for at least 4 min. It remains at the same level of volume, intensity and pace. I'm not talking music with like a big burst of action for only a few seconds then it slows down to give a theme or some suspsene music for another few seconds then burst in to another few seconds of action as so on, even if the track may be 8 min long.

Sorry music is hard to describe, I guess I should have asked....what is the longest action sequence?, or what is the longest amount of time a bombastic action cue as kept the same intensity without ever slowing down?

I still think the Battle of Hoth qualifies. It does slow down at times (like the beginning of the AT-AT music), but it maintains an "action flow" throughout.

The final battle in ROTJ, on the other hand, has several pauses during the Death Star scenes that break the flow, so I'd say this does not qualify.

Is that about what you were asking for?

There is a big action cue on Clear And Present Danger. I think it's like 10 minutes. It's the third track.

Well, the last 30 minutes of all the Star Wars films are continuous music (save the break for the reel changes). I think that was "mandated" by Lucas.

Another one I can think of is ID4, as was said before.

Cutthroat Island! There may be varioations in tempo and volume, but the music is pretty much continuous and excellent. Oh and a substantial amount of it is not on the cd.
Does the complete boot have SFX, therefore?

I'd vote for The Desert Chase from Raiders of the Lost Ark. I think that has a good pace throughout the scene.

ROTJ hasn't. There are several breaks for the Luke/Vader/Palpatine scenes that are NOT action music.

Wasn't categorizing the music as "action" music, just music. And I kind of take back the statement: in ESB, the music for the confrontation between Vader and Luke in the carbon freezing chamber are not used.

The underwater cue from Alien Resurrection (They swim..) is quite long (on the complete score). Over 8 minutes of basically non-stop action music.

I have one I think fits your description very well, no quiet or slow moments. It's probably the most powerful and exciting action cue I have ever heard; the main title theme from Morricone's '73 score to "Revolver"(a.k.a. Blood in the streets). It lasts 12:40, and keeps a high intensity all the way through. There are 3 different melodies, in this piece, repeated over again and again. The main melody starts of at medium pace but still intense, played by piano backed by percussion(Reminds me of "The untouchables" actually). Every time the main melody starts over, it's a bit faster with a slightly higher volume, and need I say; even more exciting. And the instruments vary; more strings and especially brass are added every time, plus the percussion goes faster and faster. The 2nd half of the piece is immense.

Is this it? http://cheap-cds.com/surf/disps/317384

The sound clips don't really capture what you discribed but its Revolver by Morricone.

I can't believed nobody has mentioned "The Hijacking" from AIR FORCE ONE. One of Jerry Goldsmith's best indeed

Album: Lost in Space
Composer by: Bruce Broughton
Track: 6) Spiders
Length: 10m24s

Great stuff! And to think the entire score was composed in no more than two weeks flat. Incredible.

Yep, that's the one. The piece I described is the 2nd track. There's about 20 sec. of percussion(similar to "The untouchables"), and then the theme starts, played by piano, though it's difficult to get an idea of the piece with this 30 sec. and 24 kbps sound clip. It's not a rare one, released in 2000 by Dagored. They have it at Amazon.com(Unfortunately with no sound clips).
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004TDVZ/qid=1021416726/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/103-9321984-6407055

I highly recommend this score. The main theme "A friend"(track 1) is incredible and very beautiful, so typical of Morricone's early 70's. It's also performed as a song in track 4 which is actually very good, and a synth versin at the end, but that one isn't very interesting.

The second theme(track 2) is the action track I descibed, also heard in a couple of shorter renditions on the score(tracks 7 & 9). It's highly repetitive but that's exactly what makes it so great. Not a dull moment.

The third theme "Anna"(track 3) is a beautiful little theme. It's actually a morriconian version of Beethoven's "Für Elise". It is possible to hear on the short sound clip, try to see if you can recognize it.

There are also a couple of extremely cheesy pieces heard in tracks 8 & 10, still quite enjoyable.

Another highlight of the score is "Quasi un Vivaldi"(track 5). A Vivaldi-sounding piece with percussion(Though some say it sounds more like Verdi). Excellent stuff.

There's only 37min. and 11 tracks, but that's the only bad thing, about this score, I can think of.
