Vangelis has written the theme for the 2002 World Cup. Not quite a "film" soundtrack. But soundtrack still. The Sony Classical single has been out for a while in Japan
This is the current track listing for the event soundtrack: http://www.sonymusic.ru/fifaworldcup
There's a bunch of cyrilic jibberish on that page, just scroll down to the bottom of the page.
Lots of pop acts. Vangelis track is last on album.

World Cup is the only time when I actually might bother to watch a match or two.
And thanks to Dinko for giving me an idea what to play next. Last time I wanted to play Mythodea, I couldn't find the CD.

Vangelis does his usual stuff. This track could easily have been part of Mythodea or 1492. Except it sounds fakely asian. Not that the fake asian theatrics are bad. It's just that they're so stereotypical, it's almost funny.
A very pleasant, cute and simple theme is repeated throughout the 4:30 long track.
The only problem is the crappy sound. The "taiko" drums and keyboard tricks sound good, but the chorus and orchestra are extremely distant with such low volume they're burried under a lot of other noise.
The rest of the album seems adapted from country to country. Most of it seems to be the same, but some songs are different from place to place. The UK has OperaBabes, another version has Chayanne.
Mostly uptempo "heroic" and "inspiring" tracks. Pleasant pop/rock music. And quite varied too.
There's also a dance remix of Vangelis' Anthem which is very cliché, but still good.
