Listened to it, played it to picture, and boy howdy, it's terrific! Okay, I'll admit... I do like the song. But what McCarthy composed, otherwise known as "Archer's Theme" on the new Decca disc, really shines when paired w/ the visuals of the Main Title montage. Good schtuff. At the very least, I'm glad the theme has been utilized in various episodes throughout the season.

They're mainly using it for the end titles, I've noticed.

    yeah, it's very good.

    PS. Thanks Jeron.

This is a really cool theme - it's nice to hear it in a more prominent statement compared with the times it "slips in" to McCarthy's underscores. Unlike Jeron, I haven't lined it up with the opening titles (ya geek!! ), but i'm sure it works just fine.

Got the album the other day, and as I write this, I'm on the first track.

WHOA!!! It's like an acid trip, bringing me back to the days when cheesy pop ballads dominated all.

This one inparticular reminds me of the one in Bloodsport... Pure cheese.

Hopefully the score isn't THIS amusing!

Jason, I'll be interested in your take on McCarthy's score... being a non-fan and all. And to truly appreciate the song, you should see the main title montage. The song isn't bad at all. Odd for Star Trek, yes. But not bad.

I really hate to do this, especially after Jeron was kind enough to send the theme over to me, but I'm going to have to go on record saying that I don't think we'd be any better off with McCarthy's theme than we would with the song... and I'm still staunchly opposed to the song.

To my ears, they both sound as if they come from Dawson's Creek, not Star Trek. McCarthy's theme starts off pleasant enough, but I just don't like the style it adopts when it actually gets going.

I guess the theme itself isn't necessarily bad, it's just a matter of personal preference. I really don't like it at all.

    Sorry ( ) but honest first ( ),
