I just took a peek at the newest additions of the so-called "reviews" of MOULIN ROUGE VOL 2, and I ended up wondering why there are people who don't READ or UNDERSTAND clear English. And even though I know this post should belong to the Junkyard, I will anyway want to defend my view and my relationship with MOULIN ROUGE the movie and its marvelous music and its poor soundtrack releases.

First of all, if anyone's interested, please check my "review" and the "thread" of MR 2 at http://www.moviemusic.com/comments.asp?id=moulinrouge-more

I have to say honestly that I don't like the people who attack anonymously on UNanonymous people like myself - and furthermore I'm surprised how these people make their own credibility to vanish by turning and twisting one's words upside down. Anyway, if these anonymous "soundtrack fans" would search for any of the many MOULIN ROUGE threads on these boards, they would very soon understand that I'm NOT against the movie itself, ONLY the soundtracks. Regulars on these boards know it very well by now that MOULIN ROUGE the movie and its AUTHENTIC music simply took my feet away - and that the both SOUNDTRACK RELEASES (as well as the Armstrong promo) are very poor compared to the gargantuan ACTUAL song & score extravaganza of MR the movie.

    Quote from a "soundtrack fan":
"All these geeks are trying to better themselves by insulting what is actually a great soundtrack."

    - For me a SOUNDTRACK has always meant the ACTUAL music heard in the movie - and that's why I'm very often disappointed at what the composers have concocted up on their "original" soundtracks (although there are some exceptions, like Williams' original E.T. and JAWS albums). So, dear "soundtrack fans", without insulting your tastes on soundtrack albums, I just would like you to remember this little thingy the next time you read my thoughts on soundtracks. And please READ every sentence - then you won't make hasty conclusions by believing that disliking the soundtrack means disliking the movie.

Another quote from a soundtrack fan:
"...this is a chick flick - the kind where girls see the movie, almost cry, get the soundtrack, and volume 2."

    - Well, "soundtrack fan" (if you ever venture into these message boards), let me tell you that I didn't "almost cry" but I honestly CRIED while watching MOULIN ROUGE and ENJOYED every minute and every little snippet of it. Does that make me a "chick" ? ...Seriously, I have never believed in putting any movie in distinct categories (except the likes of MUMMY RETURNS etc). So, once again - PLEASE read EVERY SENTENCE of a review before making such accusations.

I know this may be stupid to defend myself on these boards against unanonymous "soundtrack fans", but anyway I wanted to do it. I hope some of these lurkers will find their way to this post and don't waste their reviews to name-calling and wild accusations about other people's thoughts.

And besides, I would very much like to see more THOROUGH thoughts on these "I love it! I adore it!" kind of soundtrack "reviews".

    Sincerely,
    KEN

Ken, don't worry about it! You really don't need to feel as if you are required to explain yourself to the anonymous blabbers. Like you said, they obviously didn't even bother to read your full review before posting a 'reply' to it.

I love the movie and the music (does this make me girly or gay? okay) and have yet to buy any of the soundtrack albums. I'll pick them up eventually.

A visual extravaganza, this really was a feast for the eyes....in fact I was so dazzled that I can't figure how anyone COULD get weepy over this (don't take that as offence Ken, I know how passionate you are for this film), I found the use of existing pop standards very off putting to the point that it took me outside of the film, however, having said that I would certainly be willing to give it a second viewing. Absolutely loved Armstrong's end titles!

A little advice Ken...Chill out!, it's only other peoples views...makes the world go round and all that

if I remember the credits from the volume 2 CD correctly, the end credits are credited to someone else, not Armstrong.

but I hope I am wrong.

no doubt someone will correct me in the most sarcastic, elitist way possible

I was gonna take you up on that challenge, but you are indeed CORRECT..... Steve Hitchcock (aka Steve Sharples) wrote the end title track.

    Hey Dan,

do you know the reason for Steve Hitchcock's alias Sharples ? And by the way, is Steve Sidwell a totally different person ?

Thanks friends for your kind feedback - I just wanted to publish the above post here so that some of the "soundtrack fan" lurkers would have the chance of learning to read.

    Well, Monsieur Brecher,

it seems that the "Moulin Master" is totally confused about these three Steves which turned out to be one Steve and another or then not...

PS. I finally have the MOULIN ROUGE DVD, but unfortunately it's not the same without a big audience and a giant screen - or then when one has seen the movie about two dozen times, it starts to lose some of its magic
