You guys suck. All I get is regular stuff, LOL. How's the LINK score? Man, I hate that movie - but man, I love Goldsmith.

I just picked up ENIGMA (Barry) and CLOCKERS (Blanchard orchestral) for 4.99 each. Not too shabby. From a cursory listen, both are good - I generally don't like Blanchard's stuff b/c I shy away from anything Jazzy but it's really good, lot of great melodic, quietly powerful stuff.

And I also broke down and had to buy AOTC, b/c my friend's been playing "Across the Stars" for about a week and it's killing me. So, I paid the full monty for it. Worth it, I suppose.

Try Blanchard's scores to "Eve's Bayou" and "Caveman's Valentine." They are both quite excellent. (Even if there are similarities in them to other scores. i.e. "Eve's Bayou" has a motif similar to "Mirror Has Two Faces" and "Caveman's Valentine" has one similar to "Citizen Kane." Anyone else notice this?)

Also enjoyed his score to "Original Sin."

Well...I got my CDs from Footlight. I've always had a great luck in dealing with them. Their staff is very good. I called to confirm they had these CDs before I ordered them online and they were very helpful. HOWEVER...they arrived on Thursday and one of the CDs (Open Your Eyes) is NOT new! It's used. It has residue from a label that was on the booklet on it still! This is really shoddy especially after I spent $26.95 on it. They should have told me on the website that it was used. I may still have ordered it but it made me wonder if it was the only copy they had or if I just got the bum deal and ended up with a used copy.

At least the actual disc is in good condition and the music by Alejandro Amenabar is wonderful and worth having.

    Over the weekend:

    Pacific Heights (Hans Zimmer; ****)

JJH - Um, there were sound fx in "Silent Movie", but that's immaterial. I don't know jack about ripping direct from a movie. Sure, I could use a tape recorder to get the cues, but how to transfer them to CD? This is a straight-up LP to CD to CD-r deal; I believe it's the 1976 UA lp that I have on CD-r.

Being unemployed right now and therefore trying to save money, I went to the library and discovered that the amount of soundtrack CDs there has tripled since my last visit!

This is what I brought home:

    • Patton / Tora! Tora! Tora! (RSNO, Jerry Goldsmith)
    • Alex North: The Bad Seed / Spartacus / A Streetcar Named Desire (LSO, Eric Stern)
    • Tito (Mikis Theodorakis)
    • Bernard Herrmann: Jason and the Argonauts (Sinfonia of London, Bruce Broughton)

    • Anton Bruckner: Symphony #7 (London Philharmonic, Franz Welser-Möst)
    • Claude Debussy: La Mer / Images pour orchestre No. 2 (Münchner Philharmoniker, Sergiu Celibidache)

    NP: Patton (RSNO, Jerry Goldsmith)

A TRIBUTE TO ALFRED NEWMAN (Alf Newman; New Zealand Symph conducted by Richard Kaufman) - Some arrangemaents by Fred Steiner; music from WUTHERING HEIGHTS, PRINCE OF FOXES, DAVID AND BATHSHEBA, PRISONER OF ZENDA, DRAGONWYCK, the march from BRIGHAM YOUNG. Great composer, good selections, but extreme concert-hall ambience.

HOLLOW MAN (Jerry Goldsmith) - One of his best late-period scores perhaps? Main Title sounds like Billy Goldenberg TV Movie. I was imagining Robert Culp planning the perfect murder whilst listening to this.
