I remember watching this film as a kid on tv, I also rememeber the simplistic but cool theme, however I forgot the amount of electronics that were used in the score. After getting my hands on the bootleg yesturday i was pleasantly surprised by it's wonderful deep sound quality and have quickly become a fan of safan's work. The electronics usage is definately no Cherry 2000, but none the less most of the time I think they work well with the orchestral bed on top of them. It was a very impressive score for the 80's, especially for a B type film like that. Sometimes the electronics sound a bit to retro 80's for me, but thats only sometimes. For those of you that havent gotten your hands on this score, do yourselves a favor and grab it or trade for it if you can, it's a really fun listen. And as I said earlier, the sound quality is really good for a boot. I'm gonna go grab safan's The Last Starfighter whenever i can. By the way, whatever happened to Craig Safan after the 80's? He just dissapeared.

    Agreed.

Yes, get The Last Starfighter, where the theme for Remo actually shows up, albeit re-worked.

I think its a real promo- not a boot. So that is why the sound is good!

    I might be mistaken though.

How does the theme from Remo show up in Starfighter?

(It seems a little like "Darth Vader's Theme is the Ark of the Covenant theme--reworked.")

in listening to the main title as i type this, it is definately a reworked version of the Remo theme to start off the wonderful march. WOW, starfighter is a wonderrful listen as well!

Starfighter has a 6-note/7-note trumpet fanfare-flourish before entering the theme, played on strings.

    Remo(for Remo's theme, not Chi'un), is mostly trumpet--6 notes/6 notes/7 notes + 2 notes....punctuated afterward by synthesized gunshot(!) percussion.

Again, where is the similiarity, other than trumpets?

No, you're right on target. Intrada put the promo out a few years ago... it's super hard to find now.
