Amazon has an interesting entry for this soundtrack CD to be released 5/14 by Universal-
linkIt has in parenthesis "(score)" so here's hoping that's what it really is. How is Universal's track record when dealing with soundtrack CDs? What else have they released?

Well... that could either be a Decca, MCA, or Varese release. Right folks? Or am I just being stupid? Probably the latter. D'oh.

The first preview that I saw for Spirit is on the home vid of Shrek. It's a magnificent piece...scored with Jerry Goldsmith's Rudy!!!
I was kinda' hoping that the film would follow with more Goldsmith...

Well, the only trailer I saw was the crap-ass song infested one...Goldsmith's animated scores are great, but then again so are Zimmer's... Then again, I'm talking somewhat out of my ass, because the only Goldsmith animtated score I've heard is Mulan; haven't even caught that one with the mouse.
Then again, Zimmer looks like he's doing a minimal amount of work on this project and it's mostly Jablonsky.
I like Jablonsky, but I somehow doubt he'll compose something as grand as Mulan or The Prince of Egypt.

Ya never can tell, Jason. Besides, how much music by Steve Jablonsky have you actually heard? Not enough to predict the outcome of this one, I doubt. We'll see!Jeron

That's a funny one. In addition to having the most hackneyed premise for a main character, when the song kicks in, it looks like the horse is supposed to be singing it. I was looking for the pyramid of dancer horses flowing behind.Oh, and the one with the mouse is outstanding. What a treat you have to come if you stumble upon the score to SECRET OF NIMH (Nihm? Khan? Kahn?). If you once loved, and now miss, the new scores released in the mini-golden age of 1976-1983 (give or take), then this is a little, pleasant time bomb awaiting you.
Lavish. It's just lavish.

Man I'm good. Don't know what is song or score, but from the looks of the credits on both CDnow and Tower, I think we might get a half and half CD, we'll see. And looks like the label changed, on the trailer is says A&M/DreamWorks.- Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron -

I heard that Hans Zimmer and Bryan Adams will be performing the score live to the film at Cannes (ala Williams & E.T.).Basically, the band elements will be live, while the orchestra will be playback (or something like that). Should be interesting!
Also, I heard a bit of score the other day, (not the trailer music bit), and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the CD!

To clear up the point, it's Bryan Adams on keyboards and Hans Zimmer singing.Hey, how can you have "former" and "latter" when there are three options? Russian scientists would find that very illogical.
And Hasta, shut up. You don't know how much Jablonsky you've ever heard, so stop speculating, dude. This is a discussion forum.
A big
to you all.And yes, I fixed MarkA's link.

I am pretty sure Steve is beyond capable of composing a score as grand as Mulan and Prince Of Egypt.Clayton

You people are acting like Prince of Egypt and Mulan are run of the mill fluff! Yikes.Prince of Egypt, behind The Thin Red Line, is Zimmer's towering achievment... Scoreguy, if Jablonsky comes close to composing anything near it --- which, know, I'm all down for -- I'll poop my pants.
And Mulan... Ditto. I just don't see it happening.
Now Jablonsky has written some excellent additional material before, yes, but we're talking two of the best scores from two of the best composers this past decade (granted many of you will disagree on Zimmer, but he's up there IMO).
I just don't think it's possible he composes something as "great" as those two; perhaps as "fun" (like Badelt's The Time Machine), but as great? Blasphemy.

Steve Jablonsky did mostly additional stuff for Harry, not Hans. So infer whatever from that. I notice that most of the assistants or helpers (like Klaus or Justin or Steve) have certain style that reflects the one they most help out on. But they rarely surpass the "quality". I'm doubtful that Steve will do as good a job (given the tiny amount of work I've heard from him) as Zimmer would, but my ears are open

Didn't I read somewhere once that Gavin Greenaway was supposed to be scoring this film? If so, I wonder what happened. I am a big fan of his magnificent Epcot Millenium celebration cd.

Hadrian, you're in for a huge mofo of a surprise. Spirit's gonna meet your expectations, if not blow your theories on "assistant styles" completely out of the water. Put on a swimsuit.Jeron

He may have contributed to the score, I have no idea... if so, I would guess it was only in working with Hans, Steve, & Co. to correlate between the two.
