    Here's another one I did on CD with music that was performed in my first ever John Williams' concert. I did a couple of changes, since Celebration 2000 was still unreleased, I put Liberty Fanfare instead. Also in the concert "Out to Sea" from Jaws was performed first, and then the theme from The Patriot. I put them in reverse order for a more natural flow in music, and since there's no recorded concert version of the latter. I also removed the "Flight to Neverland" track from Hook for time reasons. Here it is:

    JOHN WILLIAMS' MOVIE MEMORIES 2000
    ============================================
    1. Bugler's Dream š/Olympic Fanfare and Theme**
    2. Excerpts from Close Encounters of the Third Kind**
    3. "Jim's New Life" from Empire of the Sun**
    4. Theme from Angela's Ashes
    5. End Credits from Far and Away
    6. Liberty Fanfare**
    7. Theme from The Patriot(Mark O'Connor, violin)
    8. "Out to Sea and The Shark Cage Fugue" from Jaws**
    9. "Anakin's Theme" from The Phantom Menace*
    10."Adventures on Earth" from E.T.**
    bonus tracks (these serve like encores)
    11.Theme from Schindler's List
    12.The Mission Theme(NBC News)**
    13.The Raiders March**
    14.Main Theme from Star Wars**

    *The London Symphony Orchestra

    **The Boston Pops Orchestra

    ***Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
    Itzhak Perlman, violin

    šWritten by Leo Arnaud

    John Williams, conductor
    ============================================

    I'm also working on the 2001 concert, and the 70th Birthday Celebration, which I already have the list. I had to remove the suite from Fiddler on the Roof from this one again for time reasons, and since it's not a John Williams composition... I also need a way to make a smooth transition between "Immigration and Building" and "Civil Right's and the Women's Movement", but so far, here they are:

    JOHN WILLIAMS' MOVIE MEMORIES 2001
    ============================================
    1. Jubilee 350
    2. The Cowboys Overture
    *Two Pieces from The Witches of Eastwick
    I. 3. The Ballroom Scene
    II. 4. The Devil's Dance
    *Celebration 2000
    I. 5. Immigration and Building
    II. 6. Civil Rights and the Women's Movement
    III. 7. Flight and Technology
    8. "Flight to Neverland" from Hook
    9. "Remembrances" from Schindler's List
    10.Theme from Jurassic Park
    11.Theme from A.I. (have to use The Reunion from the CD)
    *Two Pieces from Superman
    I. 12.Love Theme
    II. 13.March
    14."Flying" from E.T.
    bonus tracks (again, as encores)
    15.Main Theme from Star Wars
    16.The Raiders March
    17.Mission Theme (NBC News Theme)
    ============================================

    And then the 70th Birthday Celebration.
    It's going to be difficult to get an opening piece for this one because there's no recording of For Seiji!, and there's is no piece by Williams released that resembles this one. I might choose Song for World Piece, as it was written for Seiji Ozawa, so this would fill that part. Also, there's no recording of the Angela's Ashes suite with cello, so I'll be using the original soundtrack recording. Here's the tentative list:

    JOHN WILLIAMS: A 70TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
    =============================================
    1. Song for World Peace
    *Concerto for Cello and Orchestra
    I. 2. Theme and Cadenza
    II. 3. Blues
    III. 4. Scherzo
    IV. 5. Song
    *Two Pieces from Angela's Ashes
    I. 6. Theme
    II. 7. Angela's Prayer
    *Two Pieces from Three Pieces for Solo Cello
    I. 8. Rosewood
    II. 9. Pickin'
    *American Journey
    I. 10.Immigration and Building
    II. 11.Civil Rights and Women's Movement
    III. 12.Flight and Technology
    bonus track (the encore)
    13."Flying" from E.T.
    =============================================

    Hector,
    your terrific work on those compilations reminds me of the similar thingies I began doing since '87. There are lots of problems making fluent, most perfect compilations out of this kind of material which you have, since most of the tracks are so long - couple of years ago I started snipping things out from these "too long" bodies of work due to limited space on cassette and the certain flow of things, which is always very important to me when doing compilations - even on the compilations for my ears only.

    So, nowadays when I have access to a professional studio, I'm like a kid in a candy store doing these truly wild "Fantasy Versions" which give me a chance to produce as fluently flowing CD compilations such as "OVER THE MOON" - not to mention that thanks for these "Fantasy Edits" on CD nowadays my 90 minute cassette compilations are so filled with ONLY THE VERY BEST, that the time I spend in my car goes REALLY swiftly

    Dan, thanks for the nice words.
    I don't yet have Williams' MARRIED MAN, but getting it soon (...I hope).

    KEN

    It's good to know that we are not alone in this! Hehehe. I did a lot of these kind of compilations on tape. Too many to count, but my favorite so far has been the 1995 update of "By Request..." that I did on tape. There's also another one I did of the music from Star Trek when First Contact was released, using music from the Erich Kunzel recording, and two tracks from First Contact (this was because there were two composers for this film). I'll look for the list, I don't remember it that well...

    What kind of software, or whatever do you use, for example if I wanted to make that transition in Celebration 2000(American Journey) from "Immigration and Building" to "Civil Rights and Women's Movement"? Or what exactly do you do?

    I also think I'll have to remove a track from the "John Williams' Movie Memories 2001", or if I can access the technology to edit CDs, make Celebration 2000 into a some sort of one track piece, I guess mostly "Immigration and Building, and the finale from "Flight and Technology".

    Gotta go... gonna look for the "Star Trek" compilation
