I was just wondering if anyone of you have met our idols?

Me, Jay Chattaway, back in 93 in Los Angeles.
    Great, charming man.

What exactly are you asking Philip? Your thread title poses the question "Who here knows a composer," while the thread itself asks "Who here has met a composer?"

There's a big difference in meeting someone and actually knowing them.

    Just wanted to differentiate.

There is a big difference between knowing and just meeting a composer. When I lived in LA during summer '94, I hung out with Chris Young on three occassions. Really great guy, very gracious, and interested in hearing honest opinions on his scores and how they are percieved. This is not too say he is self-centered, on the contrary, I found him overly modest when discussing the wonderful qualities of his music.

    Well Jeron,

when you meet someone, you get to know him well, more or less.

But my question, was if someone of you are good pals with composers. I am surely not good pals with Mr. Chattaway. Just met him, because one of his friends was my english teacher

    I disagree.

I've met composers before, but I don't know them at all.

Hey, that reminds me, perhaps you can answer my question: Have you ever heard a Corigliano piece called The Mannheim Rocket (from 2000)? The National Symphony Orchestra Washington and Leonard Slatkin will play this and other things (with the help of Joshua Bell) in a concert in Vienna soon. Bernstein's Chichester Psalms are probably enough to make me buy a ticket, but I'm intersted in this as well.

I've met some and have had some write me, but I don't know any that I could call up and chew the fat with, let alone that would even remember me.

I have no idea. But if I go to the concert, I'll let you know how it was.
