http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=11941Peter - how did Dan get this instead of you? Are you fuming mad that he one-upped you again? He's getting huge national exposure with that column!
Sorry

My goal was not to bait - I was just curious why Dan got the gig instead of Peter, since Peter is da man...BTW, it's "SHE" for all you chauvanists out there!

Wow, that's the first time I've ever been called a chauvanist. We don't get too many women 'round these here parts, so it's only natural for us to assume. Sorry.RE: AICN, I'm sure Peter's got plenty of other things he'd rather do than spend his time supplementing Harry Knowles' site. I know I do...
If Dan thinks he has the time to do so, then more power to him I suppose.Jeron

Allow me to clarify that while I'm not a big fan of AICN, I know the site gets a lot of traffic. If what Dan is doing for the Harry gives film scores more attention and publicity than they are getting now, I think that's great.

Hi, Mark. You seem upset. Sorry if I riled you with my post. I've been reading the various soundtrack sites for years, and I just decided it was about time for me to post! Didn't realize that the same flaming you boys do to each other would immediately be directed towards the new girl!
As for your question, I notice that Dan has done some very high-profile interviews, has had soundtracks on his site sometimes long before Peter (e.g., Lord of the Rings), and almost always has his trailer music list updated.
Granted, Soundtrack.net's site is rather ugly, but all the stuff on his site usually makes up for it.
Not to knock Peter - he's had a good run with this site. But considering Peter's supposed resources and contacts (based on what I read here), I would have thought HIM to be the expert upon whom Harry Knowles would have called.
Despite what you think of AICN, a lot of people read it, and if you want to increase your audience, that's an excellent way to do it.
I'm sure Dan's visitor list grew exponentially the past two days!

Interesting perspective, Stacey. I met Harry in 1997, and I remember MovieTunes and myself not being geeky enough or something. Being a geek must have something to do with it, as AICN constantly calls itself Geek Central. Further, I packed up and moved far away from Hollywood because I am a paranoid loon FishChip. You may have missed that discussion where Dan, Ford Thaxton and friends publicly revealed my failures in Hollywood, whatever they were (I can't remember... I was drunk and on crack the whole time, just like any fashionable Hollywoodite).Blastphemy, here's the truth: there is nothing Dan does at Sountrack.net that comes close to what the MovieMusic Company goals are. More traffic is not what MovieMusic needs. I would have imagined people might notice, but perhaps not. Different ballgames altogether, so let's end this ASAP. Thank you.

Whatever happened to your movietunes site? Is that the thing I hear in the movie theaters now? Did you make bucks off of that sale? The link on your website goes to an online CD store for hollywood.com, but there's no mention of movietunes or soundtracks anywhere! Did they kill it?

Shot through the heart, and Hollywood.com's to blame. They give love a bad name. No matter, as this is what MovieTunes would have become. Yes, big bucks. No, not what you heard in theaters.... however, MovieTunes.com vs Movie Tunes almost became a legal case, but not many people know (as Filmtracks found out, it snot wise to post confidential letters on the main page of your site). Did I cover all those Qs, Blastphemy?

Peter, go back to your corner and calm down man. This is a harmless conversation and if Stacey wants to know then don't be snappy about it.All Dan is trying to do is generate more interest in film music itself and I'm all for that. Do you have any clue how people look at me when I say I listen to film music? Yet if I listened to rap I would not get those "Oh he’s nuts." looks.
Props to Dan and everyone else that helps in getting film music out in the mainstream, if anyone has an issue to what I've said, I've got two words for you:
Bring It.

Well said Crono...let's take a look at what Dan is DOING and not why he's doing it. Film music should be recognized more than it has been and it's obvious Dan is helping out to do that. It's amazing the quickness to judge, but the lack of effort to do what Dan is doing. I'm impressed and thank him for doing this. Let's focus on the film scores people! The FILM SCORES!
It's one thing we all love!

I'll admit it's uncalled for, but I do think you're not seeing the whole situation here. And if you're going to snap at Peter for snapping at someone, I'm going to snap at you too.

Hey you don't really see where I am coming from. I am friends with both Peter and Dan, and as Peter is my friend, I believe I have the right to tell him to calm down for a spell, and I can tell Dan to do the same only he's not in this thread.I thought that Peter's sharp comment to a new member was uncalled for (reguardless). He could have said something like "I do not like to debate matters of this nature in public on this board." But he didn't and in my option bit off Stacey's head. That's why I told him to so back to his corner.
For the record, I am not mad at Peter, Dan or you Al, but I was a bit shocked when you told me I was clueless and that’s a bold statement considering you have never talked to me personally. If my tone is a bit upset sounding I am sorry, but your statement totally caught me off guard and I do agree it was uncalled for.

Brian, you completely misunderstood my post, and for that matter, my tone. Come back to the thread when you understand what's happening here. Most people should not expect a warm welcome with a first post like Blastphemy's. She can fend for herself if that's how she chooses to come out of the gate.... but it's a moot point anyway. We've gotten past the bluntness (at least she has), and have a good ol' off-topic discussion going.

Boy's... calm down! Spread love, not hate, and you'll be surrounded by better people. On the film score topic, I'd just like to open myself up to more unwarranted flames by stating that my favourite film score is "The Cider House Rules" by Rachel Portman

And shame on all of you who lead personal crusades against individual composers. I've seem you boys go after Harry Gregson Williams, John Williams, Trever Rabin, etc. and I can't figure you people out! If these composers weren't doing their job, then directors wouldn't hire them, people wouldn't see the movies as much, and the soundtracks wouldn't sell.
I'm so happy Randy Newman finally won his Oscar, yet I even see *him* being trashed in other threads!
If anyone should be trashed, it's Jerry Goldsmith for being so overrated... (oops! did I write that? I'M A HIPPOCRITE!)

In all seriousness Stacey, why don't you start another thread... start *anew*, if you will. Your post regarding Dan and Peter simply wasn't the best possible way to introduce yourself. Personally, and I mean this with all my heart: I'd love to have you a part of our community if your intentions are sincere and not guided by a desire to disrupt. That being said, let's move on. If you're up for some good, wholesome discussion of film music, I'll be seeing you in other threads.Yours truly,
