Attention people! There's a petition for a score-only CD of Elfman's SPIDERMAN over at Music for a Darkened People. Please show your support!

Does anyone else thing this is pretty premature? I mean, petitions are nice and all, but just because a score album hasn't been announced yet doesn't mean we have no chance of getting one....Dan

That's just what I was thinking. I support this cause completely, but I don't think is really necessary when we don't even know if the score won't be released.

Yeah... let's just wait. I know you're anxious SFT, being our resident Elfman-addict and all, but remember what happened with MIB? Be patient.Jeron

I'll eat all my Elfman scores if his Spider-Man music does not see the light of day on CD within 12 months.Dan

"I'm with you fellas." - Delmar in O Brother, Where Art ThouThis is definitely premature. People didn't even entertain the thought that Elfman's score would get released anyway, just not right away. Remember how we had to wait for the "Men in Black" score album (sans petition)? This is very much like that. Speaking of MIB, I hope we get a score album for MIB2. As for this petition, I bet you anything that people are gullible (read: dumb) enough to sign without thinking things through. It's not like Elfman is struggling for these big projects and he needs this support that badly. For a Conrad Pope or an Amotz Plessner, though, things are a bit harder.

Anyone think it is unfortunate that there is actually a dissenting opinion on a group of film music fans getting together to show their support for music to be released?I go to that Elfman site all the time, and think what they are doing is actually a good thing. Considering several idiots whined that the personality-devoid "We Were Soldiers" score has not been released...?
Someone says they will eat their Elfman CDs if "Spider-Man" is not released within 12 months... Well, I will eat my Silvestri CDs if "Predator" is not released within 12 months.
12 months is a whole year!
I get a lot of flack from friends for being often a little negative. Well, I'll never be negative towards folks who are supporting film music.

But I see nothing wrong in letting the right people know, that the score is in demand.posted 04-07-2002 04:31 PM PT (US)

Quick clarification - it's not a petition.... it's just a shoutout.Dan

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. What is wrong with showing a little support for a score only CD of Spiderman? There's certainly no reason not to let the powers that be know, that a score release is wanted. Too many great scores have never been released (Predator is an excellent example here), and staying ahead of the game, being on the safe side, making sure - whatever you want to call it, never hurt anyone. And guess what? If you don't think it is worth your time, then don't sign it. It's really that simple.SFT

I signed the petition the day I found out. Now I see that a few are complaining this might have been premature. Ehm...excuse me, but are all together here? How can it be premature. Let's look at some scenearious here:Scene 1: Excecutives have no plans whatsoever of releasing the score. Petition comes in...they change their mind, or they dont at least they know some want the score.
Scene 2: Excecutives have plans of releasing the score. Petition comes in...they now know some want the score.
As I see it, it's a win win situation. It doesn't hurt and can only benefit. Oh, or are we saying that an early petition might kill the chances of a score all together? Oh dear me, didnt think about that one

Hmmm...
