I nearly had a stroke when I looked at Varese's "Upcoming" section [which I do every week] and saw this. It will [surprisingly] be the first FRIDAY THE 13TH soundtrack ever released by Varese Sarabande, and [even more surprisingly] the 3rd soundtrack available for a FRIDAY THE 13TH film. I wonder if they will release Manfredini's upcoming 2-CD compilation of FRIDAY THE 13TH scores. As much as I dread that thing [because it is re-recorded with synths and not a live orchestra!] I am still looking forward to it.

Also coming from the lovely people at Varese:

    UNFAITHFUL
    Original Motion Pictures Soundtrack

Music Composed by Jan A.P. Kaczmarek

A New Film from the Director of Fatal Attraction and 9 1/2 Weeks

Edward and Connie Sumner are a wonderfully-maintained middle-aged couple living the American dream. Together with their eight-year-old son, a dog and a housekeeper, they share an enviable life in the suburbs of New York City. But no life goes unchallenged: This happy marriage, dampened by the routines of affluence, falls prey to an outsider when Connie has a fateful collision with a stranger on a Soho street. It's an encounter which assaults her with mystery, spontaneity, charm—and risk. It will pull Connie into an affair which will become her obsession.

When Edward innocently learns that his wife has lied to him, suspicion propels him to uncover the devastating details of her infidelity. Tormented by the knowledge, he confronts her lover, only to discover a level of rage within himself that he could never have imagined. Can a marriage so infected by guilt and anger find a way to recover? Director Adrian Lyne spins a web of passion and pain in Unfaithful, which he describes as "an erotic thriller about the body language of guilt." Richard Gere, Diane Lane and Olivier Martinez star.

The mesmerizing and romantic score for Unfaithful is by acclaimed Polish composer Jan A. P. Kaczmarek. Haunting piano solos are combined with a mysterious but beautiful wordless vocal and surging strings to produce an erotic and passionate score that captures both the spirit of a new love as well as the lurid darker side of this illicit affair.

    20th Century Fox's Unfaithful opens May 10.

    Catalog #: 302 066 356 2
    Release Date: 05/14/02

    INSOMNIA
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music Composed by David Julyan

A New Film from the Director of the acclaimed MEMENTO!

Sent to a small Alaska town to investigate the murder of a teenage girl, a veteran police officer (Al Pacino) is forced into a game of psychological cat-and-mouse by a primary suspect (Robin Williams) after his partner is killed. The stakes escalate as he contends with an idealistic detective (Hilary Swank) and finds his own stability dangerously threatened.

Nothing is what it seems in this new film from writer/director Christopher Nolan. The dark, foreboding and menacing score is by newcomer David Julyan, who previously worked with director Nolan on his award-winning Memento.

Warner Bros. film opens Memorial Day Weekend.

    Catalog #: 302 066 357 2
    Release Date: 05/14/02

    ICE AGE
    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music Composed by David Newman

    BIGGEST MARCH OPENING EVER!

NOW EXPECTED TO TOP $200 Million at the box office!

ICE AGE features the voice talents of Ray Romano and John Leguizamo and Denis Leary.

Twenty thousand years ago, the Earth was being overrun by glaciers, and creatures everywhere were fleeing the onslaught of the new Ice Age. In this time of peril, we meet the weirdest herd of any Age: a fast talking but dim sloth named Sid; a moody woolly mammoth named Manny; a devilish saber-toothed tiger named Diego; and an acorn-crazy saber-toothed squirrel known as Scrat. This quartet of misfits unexpectedly, and reluctantly, comes together in a quest to return a human infant to his father. Braving boiling lava pits, treacherous ice caves, freezing temperatures and a secret, evil plot, these "sub-zeros" become the world's first heroes!

The gargantuan score by David Newman is a highlight of the film and is expected to be a best-selling soundtrack. It's a wild adventure, exciting and fun. Newman's score is one of the finest of the year and has been much in demand since the film opened!

We may grumble about Varese from time to time but they're still pretty damn good to us, aren't they?

Here is the URL of the page that presumably got David Maxx so excited:

I saw the trailer for Jason X (before an Easter morning screening of Resident Evil) and I thought it looked like an absolute hoot.

Oh yeh. I've had the trailer on my computer for about a month or so now. Looks like a lot of fun. Best Line... "Hey guys. It's o.k. He just wanted his machete back." LOL

SEBULBA is right.....itīs the best line Iīve heard in a long time. Man...what a great time I had watching this movie. For sure, the craziest of the saga, if itīs possible to be craziest than "Jason goes to Hell"....

Jeff ought to be pleased with this. Now all that is needed is a score release to Blade II by Beltrami

That's coming out (God only knows why) in late August.

Jason X - I also saw the trailer and I might just check it out, purely out of curiosity; I've never been big on the "Friday the 13th" series, by any stretch of the imagination.

Ice Age - An official score release? To quote Mimi on an episode of "Drew Carey", "Well, bite me, chew me up, spit me out and bite me again." I really hope that the score receives a good representation on the Varese CD, lest I seek out the bootleg. I haven't yet seen the film, but I plan to.

Well I for one am looking forward to "Ice Age" and "Unfaithful".

David Newman & Jan Kazcmarek are two of my favorite composers and we don't have nearly enough of their work on CD.

Also interested in that Quo Vadis that is going on in the other post. I saw a promo of that around Dec. but didn't get it. (Long story...)

Great news for Jaosn X score. I got a chance to see the movie, and though not the best score in the series, I'd say it's the second best. I think part 6 was the best.
Jason X has a cool theme, with a techno beat for some parts. There music for the final scene, which i think was thought up to fast but still cool, it great. I think most parts in the score for softy themes he used a small orchestra. But that cue was great snd I hope it ends up on the cd.

Can anybody decribe me the music.
    Orchestral or synth?
    Mix of both?
If orchestral with full blown brass and percussion or only some strings?

According to the back of the Varese disc, it's "Music composed and performed by..."

But at least it's a long disc (I make it topping an hour), and, if it's not too bad, maybe the dreaded synth re-recording won't be so bad after all... [trying to look on the bright side]

NP: TURBULENCE 2 (Don Davis), all synths; hope JASON X is better than this one....

O.K. So where'd you find the back cover? I don't even see the front over at Varese's website. I want to see what that looks like.

I was a bit naughty. Someone posted the ICE AGE artwork URL (in the ICE AGE thread); this opens a window in your browser with an address bar (the bit where you type the URL in), whereas if you click on them off Varese's "New" list, you don't get an address bar. I changed the address from ICE AGE's serial number 6358 to JASON X's, which is 6355. Varese have obviously set up the artwork pages, but haven't linked them to the "forthcoming" pages. I don't think they do that until they're ready to pre-order them.

I tried this with a few others - ROLLERBALL 6354 and SALTON SEA 6351, but others like INSOMNIA and UNFAILTHFUL haven't been set up yet.

To see the front artwork (which to me isn't very impressive - is it the film's poster artwork?), change /md/ to /lg/ in the earlier quoted URL.
