What do you guys think? Does this mean the maestro will have the chance to release more of his music?

Let's hope so, but I think that Shore has done somewhat well in getting score releases....Panic Room is coming out, Spyder will probably get picked up by Milan, and he's bound to do a deluxe edition of LOTR(right???). He doesn't seem to have a promo or commercial issue for every score(see Chris Young for that....almost), but comes pretty close.

Later today/tonight I will put up my SCL Oscar Reception article, in which I will reveal what Shore told me regarding that very issue.

    Stay tuned!!

    Dan,

Sounds good (I hope). I continue to fail to see a better excuse to put out an expanded release in light of Shore doing new music for the expanded cut... The Oscar win just sweetens the possibility.

Okay - the article is up... the first part is a quick summary of the SCL Oscar reception, then some photos (yay!) and then a little "soapbox" explaination/editorial about the expanded CD stuff, and what the good/bad news is regarding 'em.

    Enjoy!

    Ok Dan, I read it.
I really want more music from it, but I think it would be better just to wait for a complete recording from all 3 movies...

Nevertheless... I am not sure... hehehehe!

boy oh boy. 9 hours of new music.
    a 3 hour concert suite?

    now THAT's operatic.

This is a musical giant, man.

    thanks for the article dan.

    hehe,
I think that much like the Wagner Ring of the Nigelung festivals at Bayreuth, we could all one day flock to the Hollywood Bowl and have 3 days of nothing but amazing LOTR music.

Well, Shore never said that - I was just hypothesizing. Since he's doing a 1-hour concert suite for this FIRST film, it could very likely expand into a 3-hour concert suite for the entire trilogy... ya know?

Hmmmm.... A November release, if possible, would be a logical release date to meet the hype and promotion for the release of the expanded DVD I always thought, but then I know nothing about when he'll finally be finished on the new FOTR work, how incredibly busy he'll be with Two Towers and indeed how long it takes to put all the extra music together for a CD release.

It is at least comforting to know that he'd like to do a more special release one day.

    Dan

Read it and petitioned for an expanded score.
Would love to hear it in DVD-A, DVD with DD5.1 or SACD. That should be the new norm for expanded filmworks.

    Ah, indeed....

Shore will be recording this new music for the DVD in April. He's busy writing (and resurrecting) it now.

Then he dives into THE TWO TOWERS full-bore, while finishing up that concert suite. In fact, he's down in New Zealand this week.

    So we'll see....

Find out for us poor, uninformed folk if they plan on putting this score out on DVD-A. That and Potter are both Warner titles, and they released A.I. (not the best example of surround sound in a film score), so hopefully they'll look at these.

Well, if we can get a complete release in two/three years, I'll be happy (though nervous) to wait.

Regarding the concert suite: For once, I'd be extremely pleased if it includes narration (sorry if there's anything about this in the article, I haven't read the full thing yet).

Just FYI, the cover art for both the widescreen and (cough) pan&scan DVD versions of the theatrical cut of Fellowship of the Ring can be found here

The dinner/DVD event should be taking place right now, with most sites getting their reports up with specs tonight and tomorro morning.

Looks great! Though I'm really angry that Galadriel indeed gives Sam a ROPE. I mean, even if the Scouring is out, she could still give him that Mallorn nut. Particularly since an earlier cut scene shows that Sam is a gardener. All the others get great gifts, and Sam gets...a ROPE!

But the rest looks absolutely great. How long until August? How long until November?
